However, from Baller’s comments on here about Bonner turning over his locker room to 2 parents, I can’t imagine the honeymoon with Bonner will last long either.I guess that’s one way of looking at it. Tri state kids are safe from a coach poaching players. I don’t hate Mays. I hate what Mays is and stands for. His work is making calls and txt to kids. If that is out working coaches. I just have a different opinion and a moral compass. I couldn’t do what he did to my own players if I was the coach. Wish our boys luck as they leave tomorrow. Mays is no longer here!! Ashland is better for it. As far as Bonner. He won’t have to worry about the two dads. They will be in MOCO in a few months.
I’ll tell you what kind of coach Mays is, he’s a superb coach that works his butt off and knows how to develop and make winners out of young men wanting to reach their full potential in basketball. I can well understand why players and their parents are attracted to his program. He knows his stuff and produces. He makes kids better on the court and off. I watched one of his former players (who could still have been eligible this year at Ashland but Mays advised him to go on to college, that he was more than ready) score 14 points and help Liberty University defeat Villanova last night in the NIT. He has players that he coached and developed at Morehead State, Cedarville, Ohio University, Transylvania, and Robinson is also playing college but I think he transferred from Campbellsville. I think if you interviewed any of these young men they would give a lot of credit to their college basketball readiness to Jason Mays. He has a college coaching background and knows the ins and outs of what it takes to play at that level. And not every player will play college but he got them to be the best they could be as a high school player. He is one of the top coaches in Kentucky and Montgomery County’s gain is a big loss for the Ashland community.

The families of the kids did. They were good before Mays got there and Colin coming from Elliott already an established player on the AAU circuit helped mays fill a void at the pg spot. Hence him recruiting Deboard from BC. He said he needed him to fill Colin’s spot. That was his vacancy. Even though he told the 8th grader Davis this is what you need to do to start for me his freshman year. Now what man does that to his player. Tell them you have to do xyz and player does it but the entire time he is talking to Deboard’s dad to bring him here. Sounds like a good coach. Morals do not apply. You don’t have a kid in the program. So it doesn’t effect you when Sean marcum comes and plays in over your kid and doesn’t move in to our community. Then the day after our lose in the state tournament he transferred back to midland to graduate with his friends. You can defend that all you want. It’s wrong. He is wrong for doing it. I truly don’t want to talk about him. We are about to play. He is gone and good riddance!(03-14-2023, 12:55 AM)16thfan Wrote:How many user names to you think you need on here? Believe me it’s more shock that he is allowed to be hired months after being found guilty of recruiting multiple players. A lot of the buzz is how is the BC pg that mays said he was recruiting on the audio allowed to play? Everyone has came to the same conclusion on the subject. Khsaa is a joke. That is the consensus. Believe me most of our team isn’t from Ashland nor lives in Ashland. But for the home grown kids it’s still an experience to be here. Regardless

What do you consider home grown? Live in Ashland School District?

Baller, I think you are going to have an extremely difficult time in finding anyone who knows basketball to honestly agree with you that Mays can’t develop players. You make yourself sound silly with such comments, and it darn sure illustrates your lack of knowledge about the game. It only shows you are seething with hatred for the guy for personal reasons, which everyone on here knows by now the ‘why’. I’m actually embarrassed for you and I don’t even know you ….or any of your aliases on here for that matter.
You need to ask the coach at Liberty University how college basketball ready was his starting freshman guard Colin Porter. I assure you he will not give you the answer you so desire. And neither would Colin, Cole, Selly, Huddy, Robinson or any of his former players.

What kid/parent want to come to ashland. Ask marcum. He went home day after tournament. Again, you have no clue

Could we please get off of this "Mays-Ashland-Good Guy-Bad Guy-Great coach-Awful Coach" crap??? The original thread dealt with discussion of a regional championship game and then turned to the same ole junk. It's water under the bridge. We are now in the middle of the Sweet 16. Lots of real topics to discuss besides this ridiculous crap. In my humble opinion (with very limited knowledge of how these forums work) a moderator needs to close this thread.

I get it, I do. I'm an Ashland fan and I hated to see coach Mays lose his job. But...sometimes the adult in the room just has to step up and let the other guy think they've won. There is not a person in this forum that hasn't heard these arguments from the countless posts on other threads dealing with this stuff. More time wasted on the subject is not going to change anyone's mind and getting the last word won't change a thing. "Endeavor to persevere" my friend.
