The tri-state area is worse off without Jason Mays living in it.  Ashland will be fine and have a competitive team going forward, but Mays had a vision for their program exceeding what any of their previous coaches could offer.  His work ethic put other area coaches to shame.  They hated him for it.  Baller hated him because he apparently wouldn’t play his son.  However, from Baller’s comments on here about Bonner turning over his locker room to 2 parents, I can’t imagine the honeymoon with Bonner will last long either.

I guess that’s one way of looking at it. Tri state kids are safe from a coach poaching players. I don’t hate Mays. I hate what Mays is and stands for. His work is making calls and txt to kids. If that is out working coaches. I just have a different opinion and a moral compass. I couldn’t do what he did to my own players if I was the coach. Wish our boys luck as they leave tomorrow. Mays is no longer here!! Ashland is better for it. As far as Bonner. He won’t have to worry about the two dads.  They will be in MOCO in a few months.

It’s unbelievable how two families would pull up stakes and follow a terrible coach for their son to play basketball at another school 90 miles away. One of those dads is a good friend of mine and I don’t think he will move there just due to his work situation, but stranger things have happened. If people follow Mays I think that just shows what kind of coach he really is.

I’ll tell you what kind of coach Mays is, he’s a superb coach that works his butt off and knows how to develop and make winners out of young men wanting to reach their full potential in basketball. I can well understand why players and their parents are attracted to his program. He knows his stuff and produces. He makes kids better on the court and off. I watched one of his former players (who could still have been eligible this year at Ashland but Mays advised him to go on to college, that he was more than ready) score 14 points and help Liberty University defeat Villanova last night in the NIT. He has players that he coached and developed at Morehead State, Cedarville, Ohio University, Transylvania, and Robinson is also playing college but I think he transferred from Campbellsville. I think if you interviewed any of these young men they would give a lot of credit to their college basketball readiness to Jason Mays. He has a college coaching background and knows the ins and outs of what it takes to play at that level. And not every player will play college but he got them to be the best they could be as a high school player. He is one of the top coaches in Kentucky and Montgomery County’s gain is a big loss for the Ashland community.

Haha you seriously think all the 16th titles in the threads is one person. Lol. That is funny. Anyway. Mays didn’t develope the kids you are mentioning. The families of the kids did. They were good before Mays got there and Colin coming from Elliott already an established player on the AAU circuit helped mays fill a void at the pg spot. Hence him recruiting Deboard from BC.  He said he needed him to fill Colin’s spot. That was his vacancy. Even though he told the 8th grader Davis this is what you need to do to start for me his freshman year. Now what man does that to his player. Tell them you have to do xyz and player does it but the entire time he is talking to Deboard’s dad to bring him here. Sounds like a good coach. Morals do not apply. You don’t have a kid in the program. So it doesn’t effect you when Sean marcum comes and plays in over your kid and doesn’t move in to our community. Then the day after our lose in the state tournament he transferred back to midland to graduate with his friends. You can defend that all you want. It’s wrong. He is wrong for doing it. I truly don’t want to talk about him. We are about to play. He is gone and good riddance!

Oh I’ve heard a lot here in Lex. Believe me it’s more shock that he is allowed to be hired months after being found guilty of recruiting multiple players. A lot of the buzz is how is the BC pg that mays said he was recruiting on the audio allowed to play?  Everyone has came to the same conclusion on the subject.  Khsaa is a joke. That is the consensus. Believe me most of our team isn’t from Ashland nor lives in Ashland. But for the home grown kids it’s still an experience to be here. Regardless

But you’re saying he can’t coach or develop players, which is your personal opinion (because of a personal dislike I suspect) but you won’t get very far with that argument with knowledgeable basketball people. Mays is one of the state’s top coaches, a 10 on a scale of 10. Some people might nod along with your blabber when talking about the subject but as soon as you’re out of sight and hearing distance they’re going to laugh at your comments.
