Hot Seat

Willie Turnover Wrote:2014 there was an area wide revival with over 100 churches in the community involved. The event was scheduled to take place at Somerset's football stadium. A few weeks before the event Somerset said it could not be held at their facility, because part of the stage would be on the football field. The event was moved to Pulaski Countys football field who hosted the week long event.
Rest of the story: Somerset went 0-10 and Pulaski won the 5A state championship. It might make a difference.:eyeroll:

Victory and defeat happen to both the godly and godless. Sometimes it is in our defeats that our witness for Christ is magnified even greater! The cross of Christ is a prime example of that!

Very good point. I hadn't thought about that. There were a lot of kids who accepted Christ into their lives during that event. In the end, everybody won.

So........ anybody else on the hot seat?

Briar jumper bd Wrote:Well what the heck lets just talk about Somerset and some coaching. We won't even talk about assistant coaches and porn videos on line! Lol.. ok let's go with O Linemen not knowing how to block an alley pass week 8 of season. Coach Speaks asked a Olinemen to draw it on board and he couldn't. Week 8 for God sake!! At least Speaks cared enough to be irritated!!! Coach Lucas doesn't care enough to know that! How about, your olineman telling your running back on dual counter that "I made it through the hole why didn't you!" Lmbo!!! How about never going full contact in any drill or practice past the 2nd week of the season And very limited to that point also ! How about NEVER holding kids responsible (sitting them for discipline reasons) unless you know their parents will support it and I can name kids/games, but won't! That's just a few x's and 0's things. I could write a book about the more important things.
After backing Somerset all year after what I seen from the press box last night was disgusting. They have no respect, and now I see what your saying about discipline they have none. I and many were hurt last night. The Somerset team had 50+ sitting behind our student section throwing coins, starting fights and cheering for PC. As PC took a knee they all stood up and sang the Somerset Fight song as loud as they could. I was at the press box and still heard it. Total disrespect for our team, parents, players. Our sideline turned around and had to watch this as they fell in defeat. Uncalled for

Someone had said in one thread Somerset fans were a class act. The fans may be, but my experience in multiple games, at multiple levels is that neither their coaching staff or players have demonstrated much class in winning or losing. Just been my experience. Hope that's an aberration.

Not trying to take sides but things may not always be as they seem. There was enough blame to go around on both sides, as to how the Somerset contingent was received in the first place by the SW student body. Kids on both sides made bad judgments, they may not make the same decision you or I would make as an adult hopefully. It's not right to make a blanket judgment or paint the whole thing as being all on one side.

Middlesboro coach should be on the hot seat.

Knox Central has forced Russell out.

Why were the somerset kids even in the SW student section to start with? I mean my motto don't start no...., won't be no .... that's on them. And from my experiences which have been few. Somerset has always been disrespectful from coaches to parents, to players. Not all of them, as I do know some but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree as they say. And in my few dealings with RL, he's been a real jerk.

Hopefully that holds trust as Johnson Central held the Awaken Christian Concerts at the football field in recent years

Highlands coach should get 3rd degree burns when he sits down. They have imploded as a program.

I've seen similar actions at games on the North-side from the South parents, players, & coaches; taunting kids on the field. Sounds to me like those folks got a little taste of their own medicine. I've never seen a more cocky bunch at any school in the state than the ones that lost at SW Friday night.

On that note, I'm not sure why Somerset would be cheering for Pulaski anyway. Kind of odd as it's usually Southwestern kids who flip-flop schools with Somerset.

If Bell don't get rid of the football coaches they have now the program may never recover.

Let's be honest, the Bell administration deserves everything they're getting right now after the fiasco that went down last off-season. They shouldn't have ever been in this predicament to begin with.

We've made it 3 pages and no one has mentioned the mess in prestonsburg?

Escalade Wrote:Plateaued? That's utter nonsense. The problem with Bourbon County and what fans and detractors don't understand is that Bourbon County moved up to 4A just last year. The most recent Bourbon Co teams ('12-'14) beatup on a lot of cupcakes. Scheduling the Powells, Estills, Western Hills, Baths, no longer happens . Replacing them the last 2 years have been Madison Central 6A, Madison Southern 5A, Pulaski 5A, Paintsville. They've made strides. Won the District this year and won a playoff game. Next years Senior class won the Bluegrass Conference Title over Scott Co in the 8th grade. Also, their JV team finished with 5 wins as well and the 8th grade team with 7 wins. So, all is good at Bourbon County and not as dismal as you made it appear.

Think what you wish. I'm very familiar with Bourbon's situation. I'll stand by my comment.
#78
Estill, Bath, and Western Hills have been replaced by horrible district opponents. The year Bourbon lost to Belfry in the semis was the high water mark. They have definitely regressed since then, no matter who the opponents on the schedule are.

I was told Highlands will have a new coach next year by someone close to the program. Dont know if they knew what they were talking about but they said it would happen

It's not a matter of thinking what I wish, it's a matter of fact. I just laid it all out for you in plain sight. Any team transitioning to a higher class is gonna encounter growing pains. You must not be familiar with Bourbon's situation as well as you think or you're a disgruntled parent.

Hey Einstein, I clearly laid it out who replaced those teams. Madison Central, Southern, Pulaski County and Paintsville. Are you dumb?

SportsJunk Wrote:We've made it 3 pages and no one has mentioned the mess in prestonsburg?

It's obvious there's no use. The administration (Webb & Butcher) are idiots and gutless. I wonder how Webb will feel about the principles son going to Paintsville. Confusedinglepar

Evidently not as dumb as you are. Bath, Western Hills, and Powell were district games. Madison Southern was on the schedule as early as 2012. Those 3A cupcakes have been replaced by 4A cupcakes. Pulaski and Madison Central and Paintsville are quality team as well as Rockcastle who destroyed Bourbon. However winning a bad 4A district and one playoff win against 2-9 Rowan is not evidence of an upward trend.

Word through the grapevine is Somerset's top seat is on FIRE with a capital F.

Also, in our first game in 4A, we beat Southwestern in Danville and lost to Pulaski on a last second touchdown at home. This season we scored 38 points against Pulaski County, the second most by an opponent other than Scott County. You know absolutely nothing of what you speak.

I have heard the same. I would expect to hear a definitive answer in the next week or so, apparently the boosters at Somerset are not happy, and rightfully so.

You refer to last year. This year Bourbon was worse than last year. Many of the points against Pulaski were late after the game was decided. I do know who replaced whom on the schedule,l due to the switching from a 3A to a 4A district. Bourbon played a good non-district schedule but the cupcakes were district games and the district games are still cupcakes. The team has regressed. Losing to good schools doesn't prove otherwise. The only non-district games that Bourbon won this year were against 2-9 Rowan and GRC, possibly the worst 6A team in the state. The team that played Belfry in the semis was better than any since. I have watched the program since that time and the program has regressed. I hope they turn it around but the last 2 years have been on a downward trend. I am close enough to the program to have watched the games and know who district opponents are, so I do know some of what I speak.

Bourbon held 6A Madison Central scoreless til the 4th quarter and eventually lost 15-0. 1A state semi-finalist Paintsville beat us in the last minute. You sound like a parent of a former player who played while Bourbon was feasting on 3A powerhouses Bath County, Powell County etc....I would be more than happy to continue this conversation in person if you wish since you're so close to the program. I'll buy lunch. What say you?

I hear grumblings and rumors but who knows right now what is truth and what is not. One thing that's needed right now is some definite closure either way. On a personal level, I like Coach Lucas. That stated, the last few years have been a let down.
