don't get psyched out by the opponent before kickoff - CHECK
take care of the football - CHECK
Knew this Panther team was a very good group in the trenches from watching them in week one. Though I didn't pick a winner, I did say in the preview thread Pikeville would make Belfry play 4 full quarters if it did the things listed above.
Belfry should be better for this game. It can be a tough lesson to learn that NO team is unbeatable (even when one team "has better players in all positions but two" - lol).
Congratulations Panthers !! Keep that edge !!

McNamee done a wonderful job of managing the clock which was another factor in this game. Early in the game in the long drives he was winding the play clock under 10 before snapping. Good game managment.

Big win for Pikeville tonite no doubt. I guess Belfry is not what we all thought they were. I am sure WYMT has both programs overvalued at this point in the season.

No Belfry is very good. Pikeville was just better tonight...

Hate pikeville and always will, hate hate hate them, but you have to respect kids and a team that played with the heart those kids played with tonight, hats off! Simply put, they wanted it more tonight and deserve all the praise they are getting. Also we go on and on and on about the athletes we have at Belfry but Pikeville athletically has been under sold very impressive skill position players for the Panthers, Williamsburg you better take notice.

Congratulations to Pikeville.....they played a great game. They came into it with a solid game plan and executed very well. Definitely wanted it much more than the Pirates.
That being said......I do believe Belfry was exposed tonight. Whether they were simply flat.....or simply unprepared....probably a little of both. However.....Belfry didn't look like a very good team tonight.....no disrespect to Pikeville.....but they're not going anywhere playing the way they did tonight.
The Defensive line simply got no push....and the LB's looked slow on their reads. Pikeville is a good team....but certainly no world beaters....and for Belfry to lay such an unimaginable egg is telling. No fire....no emotion...no real effort..No psychological push from Coach Haywood's halftime talk and adjustments.
Believe it shows a lack of leadership.....and that's something many of us Belfry followers discussed during the offseason. This is a relatively young team......and they're not hungry......
Whether or not this team is capable of regrouping and gaining their lost focus over the next few weeks remains to be seen.

On the road, lot of injuries (and a recent defection). Give Pikeville their credit, absolutely. But don't make this out as the end of the world for Belfry. Doubt either team is overvalued. However, I can make you a good case for Johnson Central as 1A or 1B with Pulaski...

Bet they just got a lot hungrier. It's always easier to remember your failures than your triumphs. You never want to feel that again when you fail. It's quite motivational.

You are witnessing 2 class acts from both sides. Both fanbases know what happened. Just remember to not judge us all by the actions of a few.

That ought to cover the whole "Belfry is just on a different level of football" thing. I went back and read the whole prediction thread. I'd say there are several Belfry posters that were very dismissive of the Panthers that we won't see in this thread. Congrats Pikeville.
If Belfry just overlooked a good team and Pikeville didn't expose some flaws this stumble could be bag news for the rest of the Pirates schedule.

You can attach all the psychobabble to it you want. Sometimes adults do the kids a true disservice with talk like what was seen by many in the preview thread. I didn't see ONE Belfry fan consider Pikeville a threat to the Pirates (to be fair, it wasn't only them) ! EKU was the closest to do so when he complimented Pikeville for their downfield and pursuit blocking.
But it's really simple. NO TEAM is unbeatable on a given night !!

And to think they called me crazy when I said Pulaski would put a running clock on Belfry.
I think that's more true than ever.

A few people said that Belfry was flat, is that true. I think that Pikeville is a threat to go to Bowling Green in 1a, but I just don't understand this game.
Belfry flat wore every team to this point out like a very good 6a Henry Clay.
One would think that a championship caliber 3a team would beat a 1a team even if they are a 1a championship team by at least 2 scores even on a bad night. Has the gap in the Mountain classes started to close some. You got Pikeville beating Belfry and Middlesboro beating Bell and...............what the heck is going on.:insane: Congrats to Pikeville and I think the game of the year in the mountains will be when Pikeville and Williamsburg clash. I don't believe for 1 second that this is the same Belfry team who came into this game undefeated.

From what I can tell henry Clay has been scoring like crazy since their loss to Belfry. To me that says a lot that Belfry was extremely flat. Not taking any thing away from Pikeville they played a heck of a game and time managment was critical. Like I said before McNamee controlled this game. This is definitive not the same belfry team from the previous 3 weeks.

It isn't. Catron out, Joplin left, multiple others hurt. Obviously, Pikeville is a good team and earned the win. But this Belfry team has suffered some injuries/defections. It takes time to adjust.

Football 101 against Belfrys offense. Pikeville had the speed to slow down and make the right reads, then speed up and gang tackle. Don't insult the boys by trying to pass it off as Belfry having no fire or hunger. All I've read from posters like 1991#8 is how Belfry looks forward to "beating us bad" and so forth. For a solid week it has been like that. Now it's "oh, no fire, no hunger. Wail! We've seen this and talked about it for a while now". Just hush and enjoy the crow compliments of the county champs this year. Need a little more salt to make it palatable? Read below:

BREAKING NEWS:
The judge has rescinded his earlier decision allowing the child to be placed at Pikeville. Turns out, they like to "take switch to the behinds". Officials are now debating possibly placing the child with their red headed step-brother, Pike Central because they are not capable of beating anyone from Belfry.

And belatedly, here come the excuses, albeit mostly by people who aren't Belfry fans and didn't even see the game. Pikeville had injuries and players out for this game as well. Pikeville whipped Belfry for most of this game, almost all the Belfry fans acknowledge it. And yes it was the same Belfry team. :HitWall:
Belfry fans being extremely classy in defeat. But yes it was Belfry who walked out on that field. Disappointed to not get #8 and bucslover's take on the game, maybe someone should go check on them.:devilflam

Not really sure what "psychobabble" your referring too......
What I posted was fair...and spot on in terms of objectively looking at this game and how Belfry played.
BTW.....I don't think I made any "predictions" about this game....
