Not only has Luke turned the high school program around but he has also steered the youth program in the right direction. With what he has done he has brought the community back together, gave the upcoming teams pride to be called Bulldogs again.

John Derosset: Nobody thought this team would have a winning season. With 24 players and the loss of Seth Setser, Alan Craynon, and other great seniors, the 2009 Blackcats looked pretty weak. However, they managed to beat Paintsville, Pikeville, Breathitt Co, Sheldon Clark, PIKE CENTRAL, and Belfry in one season. Now the Blackcats are 13-0 for the first time since 1993. This is all due to Derosset completely reversing his offensive philosophy and opening the offense. Props to the entire coaching staff, but he definitely deserves some recognition.

Coach John Paul Chapman,He has done a wonderful job at Central this year! our son is a Freshman this year and has 3 more years in his high school football career,I hope to see Chapman,Hollen,Smith&Preece for his next 3....Thanks for all their hard work

If Shawn Hager takes a 3 seed to the state championship then he deserves mentioning. Chapman and Derossett(sp?) should probably split it though.

The old saying is it is harder to keep a program at the top than it is to get there. Dudley Hilton should be the coach of the year. He lost 16-18? seniors last year and continues to dominate the mtns. I like Dudley, but I would love to beat his tail one day.

It has got to be Coach DeRossett at Prestonsburg.

If Hines doesn't get it then whoever comes out of the 3a moutain side of the bracket to the state tournament should get it.

When a coach takes a team from a winless regular season to an undefeated season in two years, I don't think there is any question that he deserves not only Coach of the Year accolades for the Mountains, but for the entire state. Luke Sammons, Lawrence County.

It's great that there are so many deserving coaches that it's hard to pick one. Lawrence County's turn-around is magnificent. Allen Central's great year is heart-warming. Many more teams had great years. Congratulations to all the coaches and the teams that made such a great season for the fans! :thanks:

Howard at PHS! HAHAHAHAHAHA
I tried to give him benefit of the doubt but he did pretty much what i thought he'd do. Sorry for the let down phs fans, but he's not who you think he is. Good luck next year panthers hope you get a better deal!

Bell Co was also without 3 starters against JC.

Hard to argue with Luke Salmons at Lawrence County. 0-11 last year, 12-1 this year with a Region Championship appearance. But then again, there were ALOT of people who predicted LC to have the type of season they had with all the players they had comin back.
John Derosett at Prestonsburg. Lost a boat load of talent, two outstandin RB's and handful of OL and defensive players. This was suppose to be a "rebuildin" year in most people's eyes. Now they are 13-0, and gettin ready to play in the State Semi-Finals (which they have a DARN good chance of winnin, prolly should win). Big wins over Belfry, AT Sheldon Clark (who is playin in the 3A State Semi's, also beat 5A Johnson Central), Shelby Valley, Pike Central (who Chapman coaches), AT Breathitt (3A region finalist), and traditional power Corbin in the 2A Region 4 Championship. That's some "rebuildin" year huh.

I think Tom Larkey deserves it.

Coach Tom Larkey coached an underdawg team all year long and beat everyone(Letcher, Perry Central, North Laurel, Clay) in their strong district except Whitley and if there would have been a rematch with Whitley, he and his Black Bears would have won that rematch. Larkey's Black Bears turned some heads in their first year in Class 5A. I vote Tom Larkey.

Has to be the Coach at Lawrence County. No matter what is coming back, when you go from 0-11 to 12 -1, you should be Coach of the Year...
Unless he was the worst coach of the year in 2008

In a close one.....Chapman from Pike Central:
I really don't think it would be as close, if Chapman had changed up his big "O" in the SC game. With all due respect....SC played the better second half, but I think most everyone in the stands could see SC was having a difficult time handling the running game of PCC
:thanks: Chapman for a good year, but :dontthink the passing game was the way to beat a team with a fast, hard rushing blitz...
hh: maybe a middle screen to a speedy skill player would have backed off that rush??????
:eyeroll: A pass will work after you establish a steady running game, but if you go 3 and out on several series and never attempt to show off that speed of McGuire, and Power of Meade, then as everyone witnessed ...It become basketball season a couple weeks early...
