#32
i see a lot of list without jim matney and i'd have to agree. he is a great coach but hasn't won anything championships and he has had teams to do it. belfry, bell, breathitt and rockcatle coaches would have to me my favorite cause of their defense

10. Shawn Hager - Sheldon Clark

Sorry BlackcatAlum but any list without Ivan McGlone is incomplete and shouldn't be taken seriously.
#34
For what he has done, I have to agree with you.
#35
any list that does not contain Walter J Brugh is outrageous remember at the time of his retirement he sat alone atop the all-time wins list in the state of kentucky
#36
Again, I don't see them being Southeastern KY or Mountain schools. You may consider them there thats great. I don't. He would be there, just explaining why he is not.
#37
I guess you would call them neutral. They are strateling the fence on east and western part of the state.

Russell isnt a Mountain school.

John Chapman is very talented coach. Bill Allara won 3 region titles and is the last coach to to take a Panther team to the state title game. Hillard Howard needs no explanation.

You need to step out alittle bit son. Just because bill allara won 3 region titles, dosnt mean he is in the top 10. Hillard is for sure in the top and mabe number 1. And bill allara. Mabe top somewhere between 10-15

I like your list. Man was Side Saddle Jack a tough coach with that offense. Played against his BL and Neon teams.

During McGlone's tenure Russell has been in the same districts as Johnson Central, Lawrence Co and Belfry.

He won 3 region titles and a state runner up trophy in only 4 years as a head coach before retiring. Bill spent a long time as an assistant before Hillard stepped down in 1990 and could have been a head coach anywhere 10 years before that. I played for the guy and he is a genius when it comes to Xs and Os. Had the guy coached longer than he did there is no doubt he wouldve had a state title ring or two before he quit. By the way the correct spelling is "Maybe".

He was @ SC all the way up until 2004, when he came to JCHS. 20 years @ SC, I believe. Hopefully he will stay @ JC for at least that long.

I would put them in a differn order...
1. Hillard Howard
2. Dudley Hilton
3/4. Phillip Haywood
3/4. Tom Larkey
You can put either one of them as number 3 or 4
5. Jim Matney
6. Mike Holconb
7. Steve Jewell
The other is a tie with 6 ot 7 coaches....

Yeah I agree Bill was a good coach but not in the top 10.

I have ask the question if he thought Jewell was better than Powers and Cotton.....both with Championships, Powers with two.

Snare43 Wrote:I have ask the question if he thought Jewell was better than Powers and Cotton.....both with Championships, Powers with two.

No way Jewell is even close or should be named in the same category.
#56
any list without walter brugh on it is outrageous!! he retired as the all time wins leader.
#57
no way jim matney belongs on this list right now.
#58
walter brugh has to be in the top 3 he retired atop the all times wins list
#59
Snare43 Wrote:I have ask the question if he thought Jewell was better than Powers and Cotton.....both with Championships, Powers with two.

Now your political logic makes sense! Being in a district with a mountain team doesn't make mountains magically appear outside your house.
