Not quite as dumb as you thinking that Cavanaugh has an aunt in a position to give him a job anywhere. Get your facts straight.
I agree that the best athletes are not usually gifted with the most knowledge, however, Trent is the exception. His coaching resume speaks for itself. He has been a great asset to some of the region's best for many years. He possesses the rare ability of being able to connect with each and everyone of his players, which is essential in being able to succeed. His knowledge of the game is exceptional and his likability would enable him to surround himself with a great staff. Trent will make a great head coach and will build a program wherever he goes. The guy is a proven winner. Unfortunately, because his in-law (not aunt) is Superintendent, the ridiculous jealously is going to cause Knott Central to miss out on a great opportunity. Hopefully Amburgey is back at the helm next year to satisfy the Patriot faithful with another end of the year choke-job.
I remember a guy who was an assistant a few years at the mighty Horn (and they were mighty at the time, some of you from Knott should know that), then was given his chance with the Navajos. Nine regional titles and a few hundred wins later, he has made the best of that chance.
WOW!! Crown him 2010 14th region coach of the year now. The next coming of Billy G.................joke

1993 - All A State Champions
All A Classic All Tournament Team
Probably one of the best basketball players to ever play in the 14th Region.
6'0 - had about a 40 inch vertical leap. Probably the best pure jump shooter I have ever saw.
He has won all kinds of awards in basketball.
Played College Basketball at Alice Lloyd College, WHEN ALC WAS TOUGH!
Cavanaugh was one the best baseball players to ever play in the region. All Stater. About a 90 mph fastball. Could hit the ball a mile and play any position on the field. Played at Alice Lloyd College and made their Hall of Fame.
Cavanaugh is MORE qualied that Justin Amburgy ever was. He is more well rounded than John Kitchen. He is younger than Al Holland and again was a much better Athlete that Big Al ever was. Probably a lot better Athlete than Allen Hatcher.
Cavanaugh has a very good attitude and is one of my best friends. I feel like he deserves a chance just as much as anyone else does. I could sit on here and say good things about him all day long. Nobody can guarantee VICTORY at Knott Central. They are about in the same boat as Perry, Hazard, LCC, Buckhorn, and maybe a few other teams around here. It takes a lot of LUCK to win the Regional Tournament. A LOT OF LUCK. I think Cavanaugh deserves a chance to coach Knott Central.
oh he will get the chance.....but i don't think being an all state baseball player qualifies him to be a good basketball coach....who cares

This is crazy! I hope Kitchen gets it in the future and proves to all you crazy people on here what good coaching is!

Trent would definitely be a good coach for Knott County
At this point I think they need a change....
they have a great opportunity in front of them this next season and the underachievement of last season should be a wake-up call
They have some talented underclassmen but no one that can say they have the talent of Stuart or Tate.....if they don't make it to Rupp next year it will be hard to do it in the years after
I'd say shop the job around to some pretty big names in the 14th and surrounding regions....someone around here would have to want that job

Grow Up? Growing up is a sign of Old Age Aslum. Me and Trent gotta stay in our teens. Anyway thats how old we feel. I sure hope thats not one of those little Stepp boys writing that crap because they wouldnt last a second with Trent or me in the octagon or on the big mean streets of Pippa Passes.

I thought he was the soccer coach at LCC?

I read today on another site that BB King will be head coach with assistants Cavenaugh Trent, Jim Rose, Jim Cox and Kevin Davis. Is this true or just a rumor?

I Am Positive That Bill Runyon Will Have This Job

Does anyone seriously know when they are going to announce who the coach at KCC is going to be this coming year? I wish they would hurry up so we can put these threads to bed!! I never really know who to believe or what is the real truth. I am sure I am not the only one wanting to know!! I do believe whoever they do get as coach will do a great job. Good luck and thanks!
04-10-2009, 09:01 AM
You never know who will be the coach, I've heard a couple of names. I wouldn't put it past them to hire Josh Cook. He is someone that Kim is familiar with and he has experience now and he did very well at JBS. And thats what has me puzzled, why did the up and boot him when he did so well. Maybe they all something we don't. But whoever it is, I'm sure they will have KCC in tip top shape and ready to play by the time season rolls around. I still think they did Justin ****ty tho.
04-10-2009, 11:11 AM
Bill Mike Runyan will be Coach here from what people have been saying! Would be a great hire...

In all honesty,
the knott central basketball teams 2010 talent outshines Trent.
What I mean by that, if I were a player/parent/fan I would be afraid to put the massive amount of talent in and UN-experience HEAD coaches hands!
Seriously! With the right guidance, this team could be state-bound!
Is Kim King really going to put someone like Trent or BB KIng in this position? Not only is it Knott County Centrals reputation, it's Mrs. Kings Too! I don't think she needs to chance this by putting someone with NO Head Coaching expereince. If she's not going to keep Justin, then bring out the mONEY bags and pay a BIG name coach to come in here and take central to state.

I was told yesterday by a Knott County Schools board member that Justin Amburgey has been rehired as the head basketball coach, so this entire coaching search has concluded according to what they told me. They told me that they didnt get enough intrest out of big name coaches, so Amburgey was welcomed back.
04-10-2009, 01:04 PM
This team doesn't need a coach. I'm sure they will be able to make it back to the district finals and first round of region by themselves, as they have already proved that.
04-10-2009, 01:59 PM
Why not bring back Rhett Gibson if they dont give the job to Trent? Cavanaugh is the best Spanish American Coach out there though. He can teach his players Spanish so the other teams will not be able to memorize his play calls during a game.

Let's keep this on track and clean. It's near getting closed.
