The Ballard High School boys' basketball team -- No. 6 in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings -- fell behind by 12 points at the half and lost 89-75 at No. 2 Elliott County last night.
Jonathan Ferguson led Elliott County (24-2) with 34 points. Ethan Faulkner added 19.
"They are a very, very good basketball team," Ballard coach Chris Renner said. "Ferguson was, by far, the best basketball player on the floor."
Ballard pulled to within 61-53 in the second half but couldn't get closer.
"We just couldn't get over the hump in the second half," Renner said.
Keiston Jones led Ballard (20-6) with 27 points and Ian Chiles had 21

Johnathan Ferguson is the best shooter/scorer eastern Ky. has seen in quite a while. He can absolutely score from anywhere. Amazing! Congrats on becoming the 16th region's all time leading scorer. But I still belive your greatest accomplishment could come on a saturday afternoon in Rupp Arena.

Was at that game. I was very impressed that EC played SMART ball against Ballard. Very smart risks, very smart fouls, very smart plays.
They've now played against 4 top teams in the state and lost only 1.
There won't be enough people left in EC if they make it to the Sweet 16 to put out a fire! Ha!
