I hope there are no injuries in this game, and I think Ashland wins 24-22

Anybody else find it funny that most of Ashland's votes have come from fans of Russell's chief competitors in 3A?
#34
They're praying for us to show some sign of weakness.
#35
In case anyone is curious:

Russell is 18-15 against Ashland since McGlone arrived in 1976...Prior to that time Ashland owned a 16-3 alltime record against the Devils...I believe Russell's first win came in the 1970 season...If this is true Russell is 21-18 against Ashland since 1970...

On a sidenote: I don't know exactly when the JFL program really took off in Russell but I have no doubt that it is also instrumental in this turnaround...

Ashland has played tougher teams and has been improving steadily, has nothing to do with being "chief" competition.....

Tough one.

After seeing what they did to Pikeville and size of some of players they had..

Ashland: 28
Russell: 24

Well there is no doubt that this is going to be a war! Ashland is much improved from last year, especially on D. But I wonder how much offense they can produce against good competition? The great thing about it, is we all shall find out Friday lol!!!!!!! The Tomcats kinda have there backs to a wall, and I think this will be one of the fiercest battles in a long time!! And, (man) am I looking forward to this one! I have also heard that there will be lots of college scouts at this one! GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS!

Seems alot like wishful thinking to me. Wink

Yes though, Ironton and Raceland are better than anybody Russell has played yet. Of course both of those teams beat Ashland as well.

I think the JFL program started in 1970.

If Russell does not play better than they did against Boyd County, they will lose this game in my opinion.

Russell did what they had to do against Boyd County. Boyd County's defense never came close to stopping the Russell offense.

True the defense played a very uninspired game and let Wilson run wild. But that was a game that was never really in doubt.

Ashland doesn't really have anybody on offense that can be the game breaker that Wilson is. Maybe Carter at RB but not from the QB position.

Defensively they are better. I think this will be a closer game. If Russell plays as content as they did against Boyd then they very well could lose. I don't look for them to do that though.

Also comparing scores is not always the best gauge. Some teams don't see the need to score again late. They just run out the clock and stick with the 35 they already have on the board.

Comparing scores does have its place if you take into account how hard a team had to work and matched up against the same opponent. Russell struggled through this game and Boyd was clearly not out-matched, but against Breahitt, they were simply never in the game. Just because I may have a different opinion and way of looking at things does not mean I am wrong, or right.. I hear about "class' and such in regards to Breathitt and have even heard "bush-league," but I say it is "bush-league" to quit and take your starters out when you are only down by 3-4 scores.

He never said you were wrong, he suggested that comparing scores isnt the best way to gauge teams. Also, you would rather leave your starters in there and let them run the risk of getting injured and ending their season? Now thats "bush-league"

LOL Russell struggled? They scored more points than they ran plays. Yes there D was questionable but BC played their best game of the year and Wilson also had a career game. Not to mention half of BC's staff is former Russell players and coaches. Boyd Co. had a let down game against Breathitt. I would imagine if BC's staff was full of former Breathitt players and coaches the game would have been much closer, even with the let down by the players.

Russell had the ball a total of about 3 minutes in the second half. Their first drive in the second half was less than 30 seconds long.
