Phelps is the clear choice. Has enough seating and parking.

I agree Bandit Phelps would be awesome…

Prestonsburg does have more than enough parking.

You have the small lot next to the door on the street side, Arnold Ave street parking, lot across from Speedway, two large lots behind the school next to the river, another behind the football stadium, small lot in front of school, and a large lot across from Hardee’s behind football scoreboard. There’s two entrances on each side of the school.

The city would assist with parking and traffic flow as well.

The atmosphere in the Field house would be electric.

I remember the regional tournament being there in 2004, the biggest margin of victory the entirety of the tournament was 14 points. Every single game came right down to the wire, I was at all of those games and the atmosphere was absolutely off the charts. It was at Valley the next year, then onto the expo in 2006 and been there ever since.

Prestonsburg definitely has all the facilities to hold the tournament yet again, but there was no way it was going to get out of Pike Co.

Believe what you will, but between the city and school admin, Prestonsburg would be the best and most ideal host in the region.

That gym is perfect for an old school regional tourney atmosphere.

If it come to that, I'm sure they'd shuttle folks.

If by more parking you mean ppl parking up and down 119, then yes they do. If you mean actual parking spaces where you don’t have to hike up the side of a 4 lane highway to get to the gym then the answer is Pburg. The old food stamp office in Pburg has a vacant lot within 2 football fields of the gym. PC’s football parking lot is approximately equal to the size of pburgs riverbank lot, plus Pburg has the football field parking behind the football bleachers. As far as parking goes it’s Pburg by a lot. Idk about seating, but I feel like it’s equal.

Yeah, and if it is held at Betsy Layne, people could park at the school, along the street at the bottom of the hill, the Cardinal Country Store lot, the lot at the old Eric C Conn Law Complex, The Old Dan Dee Lot, the lot where Harold Elementary once stood, the old Prater Elementary lot, the Spruce Pine School lot, and the lot at John M Stumbo Elementary.  That's a great idea Blackcat.

And hoof it half a mile up that hill? No thanks. All the parking in Pburg would be on flat, level ground within two to three hundred yards of the gym. Easy walk.

My post was pure sarcasm.  I can't believe you didn't catch that.  As far as the Pburg city officials helping with traffic goes, I bet they would love to do that after spending hours and hours, saving lives and providing flood relief around d the clock.  Let's through traffic came control on their plate too, so that some high school basketball games can be played in town.

Just my 2c, Prestonsburg would be fine but so would several other venues in the 15th. The atmosphere would be electric and officials would help with parking and the host school would do a great job anywhere in the 15th. We will find out how the HS gym atmosphere compares to the Expo this tournament and see if the people screaming to move it back to the schools are right or not.

I'm starting to agree with the posters that said have it at Phelps. Talk about old school. I would love that.

These Prestonsburg homers trying to sell Pburg as the best choice is laughable and best. Johnson Central would be the most ideal school, and its not even close. The next best choice would be to let Martin County host it so they can cut down the nets at their own school.

Phelps was in it until the end.

With all this talk about where to host. I would like to know if any knows the seating capacity in our Gyms around the region. Does anyone know?

I'm the furthest thing from a Pburg homer, but I'll agree that it would make the most sense to have it there.

It'll be made official that it'll be at Pike Central, 60th district was the tournament host anyways.

But there is plenty of parking at Prestonsburg, gym is big enough to have full capacity, plus it's centrally located more than any other school.

I will say that the atmosphere would be great, but I think that could be said for any school that it would be at since the tournament hasn't been in a school in 20 years.

One good thing about Pike Central is that it's right off 23, at least you won't have to travel another 20-30 minutes to Belfry, Phelps, or Valley.
