Coach Canady was not only the valedictorian of his high School class at Evarts, but was also the valedictorian of his college class at Union College. He’s very intelligent. He has 7 years of head coaching experience at Evarts High School and 10 years of defensive coordinator experience with Coach Larkey at Harlan County and PCC. His dedication and work ethic to the football program at Harlan County played a vital role in the success that the Black Bears have had since 2008. He and Coach Larkey helped lay a solid foundation for the program. Sleepless nights of reviewing game film and hours of pushing players in the weight room and at practice to become better. Coach Canady and his family are happy in Perry County. If PCC is interested in continuing to build on the success they had this year, Coach Canady is the man for the job.

Perry needs to pay a football coach good money and I dont think the school system has it. With that being said it the same 1 and 2 and gone. They lost the best chance of having a good program when Haddix left for Corbin. Not saying Larkey had it heading in the right direction because he did. To me they need to hire an experience coach and there going to pay a little money out.Perry reminds me of Kentucky in ways they play to the tune of Basketball and they need to play down in 4A. That would be better suited for them I know 5A is a little weaker and the travel closer but 4A. They be more competitive. Knox Rockcastle Clay. Isee 2 wins there maybe 3 at times. By the way Lexington Christian and a West Virginia Coach has contacted Perry about the coaching job.

Ovie would do a great job. I wish him well. PCC is headed in the right direction.

you do know that when Haddix take the PPC. that was his first head coaching job he had. I am just using this because you said something about Kentucky in there. Joker had years of ass coaching experience but he was never a head coach. this is what I am trying to say. having experience as an ass. coach, don't always mean you going to be a god head coach. (1. there are people made to lead, and 2. there are people made not to lead) the people that are in the 2nd one, will not be a good head coach. the Head coach are the leader of the team and all the other coaches.

The players want Ovie as their coach. I heard that some of them met with AD on Friday and told him that they want Ovie as their coach. Don't rum what players you have off. The team needs some stability. Ovie keeps that program going. He has spent a lot more time with the boys than Larkey. If you want to find Ovie, go by the fieldhouse and more than likely he will be there and there is usually a room full of boys there lifting and conditioning. Ovie would stay for many years as his youngest son is only a 6th grader I think. Ovie has taken what used to be a terrible youth program and turned it into a well run program. Sometimes the best person for the job is the one right in front of you....come on AD, give Ovie the job.

Canady deserves the job. Hopefully he gets it. Perry has a chance to win that district this year. The kids work hard for him and I think it would translate over if he was the head man as well.

Perry will never sink the money for football because it’s a basketball school.. They are talented kids that walk the hallways but don’t play sports. It was surprising to see them get turf..

The main reason why I think the man deserves the job is because the kids come first and he wants them to worry about kid things and focus on the task at hand.

Well put and in 100% agreement ma'am. He's a great man and perfect for the job.

Heard that offer has been made to Mike Holcomb. This could be entirely rumor. Anyone else heard this? I know he and Larkey are good buddies.
#43
About 15 boys at the field house today lifting on a day that they could have been home or out doing something else since there was no school. Ovie has these boys wanting to come. More would be there but play basketball. Ovie will open it up and make for a fun game to watch. He won't run up the middle every single play. He know that the best defense is a good offense.

Coach Canady would be a good hire, Im saying Haddix had the program going in the right direction.
#45
I saw Jett and woo and the old football field Sunday. With a guy from West Virginia
#46
Haddix has been gone for several years. Tom Larkey was the coach the last 3 years. He retired last week.
#47
That's who we've heard that was hired. Nothing official as of this evening.
#48
Who is the WV coach that is interested in the job????
#49
Not for sure. Just saw them at Applebee's Sunday
#50
Can anyone confirm how many applicants there are for this job? I've heard a name or two...but don't want to spread unverified gossip regarding this job.

#53
Well I know two interviews that happened today. Not sure if Lex. Christian coach interviewed or not. The coach here Sunday is from Cabell Midland.
#54
Assistants at those schools I'm assuming?
#55
The man for the job is already here. We dont need anyone else. People from away from here wont stay long. Ovie should be the coach. No questions asked.

These days it doesn’t matter a lot of times if they are from there or not; I bet the average coaching tenure at a single place since the turn of the century might be 5-6 years at best.

Dudley Hilton wasn’t from the mountains and now he calls them home; nor was Mike Holcomb. Both men bred, born and raised in the heart (s) central Kentucky about 20 miles from one another. David Buchanan (now at Mercer; from Mercer) went to Mason County for 19 years. (Mason isn’t in the mountains I know, but just an example).

That’s not to say he shouldn’t be the man...just pointing out some things.

If its Salmons and not an assistant, pull the trigger right now. I can't imagine why he would want to leave Cabel Midland but, pull the trigger right now before he changes his mind.
