Got THAT right!!

Oh, and this year, allow us (those east of Pineville) to factor in the trillions of 18 wheelers that we had to dodge on the way down to Corbin!

Magic Johnson Wrote:Couldn't agree more The Arena has a horrible atmosphere for high school basketball, seats are just too far away from the court. Especially the girls games when the crowd is not as big, it has 0 atmosphere. I for one am for moving it back to respective high school gyms.

Or add some bleachers behind the goals and on the sides. Make it a little better environment for the kids and fans

Let's see if Harlan Ind wants to make 65 to 70 thousand dollars or $35,000 to be host school.
Harlan Co lost about 35-40 thousand dollars by having it at Harlan co.

Not sure how you can accurately say how much money was lost, but either way, I enjoyed it being held at HC

It shouldn't be about the money. It should be about the kids.

If it was not about the kids then it would not be about the money. At HCHS you have great facilities but it is so far out of the way you don't get the casual fan which is where the money is located. I have not missed a region game in many years including the year at HCHS, but it did not have the luster of the arena in Corbin. It is much easier on the fans with the concourse and other amenities.

You can throw the kids up all you want but without substantial money there would be nothing for the kids, not uniforms, not coaches, no travel, no officials, etc.

You are correct Dietpepsidrinker I remember when you had to leave the gym after the first game go out in the cold and repay to get in the next game. The arena offers good parking and great setting and offers small schools the opportunity to host the region. I know some teams complain that they don't like playing on that court, but the bottom line both teams are playing on the same court and to be a champion you must adjust for the next court Rupp Arena.

Harlan County doesn't have split sessions. There's plenty of room.

As for money, HCHS and Harlan fans made the 150-mile trip to Corbin four or five times in the past week. Chances are pretty good that Harlan and HCHS will be ranked 1 and 2 in the girls division next year, and the HCHS boys will be near the top. It will cost quite a bit for all those fans to make that trip multiple times, gas and food etc..., money out of their pocket they won't have to spend if it stays in Harlan County for only the second time in a 16-year period.

The Arena is not for high school basketball. Ticket prices alone are reason enough not to host it there. High school basketball should be just that....at a High School.
