Congrats Johnson Central on making your first trip to state finals. Congrats to Coach Matney! Very cool that Belfry and JC will be playing on the same day back to back. I hope all mountain teams show up to support eachother. Bring home the hardware golden eagles!

Congrats to Wayne County on a hard fought game. Your team (especially the defense, love the constant mass shifting in the box) is obviously well-coached and played a hard, clean game. Loved the JROTC flag presentation and the national anthem. Everyone I encountered was polite and classy, even after what has to be a deflating ending to the season. My first trip to Jewell Field. Love watching games on grass in November, love the traditional vibe. Hope you guys are playing at Eagle Field against us this time next year.

And congrats to the Golden Eagles. You guys have played with heart and guts, especially overcoming all the injury problems and adversity since the Ashland game. I've seen some plays in the last few weeks that I won't forget. Geordon Blanton may have the best set of hands in the state. Tyrese Allen was huge tonight on both sides of the ball. Bryce Workman is a true leader. The defense was dominant.

One more fish to catch, fellas. We know where it swims. We got our ticket on the boat. We just gotta go reel it in now, and we'll have the fish story to tell our whole lives. South Warren vs. Johnson Central. #1 vs #2 all year, playing in the final. I hope both teams can come in healthy and get to show the people out there who've never seen us what we can do. Can't wait.

This is Johnson Central's first appearance in the state championship game for any KHSAA team sport in the school's history, for any sport.

Congrats Johnson Central. This Wayne county team is being touted as better than their team that went to state and very nearly beat Belfry a couple of years ago. Coach himself told me it was the best team he'd coached. Anyways, great job by JC and a very good tough win to prepare for the championship, I think.

Congratulations JC great job boys . I'm so happy for you. Finish the journey and don't let anything slow you down.

Man, I just was looking at Wayne's roster... this game will be replayed next year! Very young team. Nothing to hang your heads about. Everyone knows Johnson Central's sophomore class is pretty special but Wayne's is very nice too.

Great win for the Eagles. Finish the job next week. I like to think we have made each other better as programs over the last 8 years. It'd be awesome to go back to back with you guys on Sunday. I, a Belfry fan, want to challenge the Golden Eagle faithful - have a bigger crowd than South Warren on Sunday.

Congrats to JC. Wayne will be very good next year.

I think you've got some coach speak here. By all accounts, this edition of the Cards has over achieved this season. They came together and fought to get farther than they were projected to. Yes, there have been comparisons to the '13 team, but most are talking about when this crop of freshmen and sophomores are juniors and seniors. Most folks thought the Cards were a year or two away from playing for a chance to go to the finals at the beginning of the season so this season has been a nice surprise.

Congrats JC. Love it

Congrats to Johnson Central on a very well played game. This was a very good and hard-fought game that was what high school sports should be about.
As a fan of Wayne County I hurt for our 12 seniors but have nothing but pride for a group that leaves as the winningest class in school history with 40 wins, two district championships, two region championships and a state championship game appearance......not too shabby at all.

Johnson Central was a first rate bunch and that's what I expected from any past dealings with folks from Paintsville area. I wished several well on my way out of the gate and will be pulling for them this Sunday night.
I'm not saying a good rivalry will develop, but it sure looks like these teams could keep their schedules open for Black Friday the next couple of years.
Also thanks for the kind words on Jewell Field, not the biggest setting for high school football, but sure one of the best. Safe travels and good luck Golden Eagles!

Almost 24 hours after the game.....
But being able to that my Johnson Central football team is playing in the state football championship game hasn't sank in.

Being in school when JC was 2-8 & 2-8 (2001, 2002), then seeing our team go 1-9 (2003) was about as low as a team and fanbase can be. Only having maybe 100-200 people total in the stands for home games during those three dismal seasons (that almost cancelled our program) was hard to be a part of.

If you would have said to the casual or even the most die-hard JC fan that in three seasons from going 1-9 that our team would be 13-1 (2006) and play in the school's first ever Semi-State game, you would have been laughed off the bus.

Throw in some regional championship losses to the all-might Highlands Blue Birds and the sediment was "well, JC is good, but we will never make it to state." I heard that line at least 10,000 times from people. JC fans and haters.

Last night...... I saw a fanbase that proved they LOVE their Golden Eagles!!!!
Making a 3+hour drive on the day after Thanksgiving to Monticello.
JC brought four Pep buses, I saw Grandparents, Parents, Aunts & Uncles, Brothers & Sisters, former players from the 70's, 80's, 90's and the 00's wearing their Gold and Black with the expectations to witness JC history.

Now that JC is actually playing in the State Championship football game is incredible.
I heard some of the former (more senior) JC players say.... "We've been waiting 40 years for this."

Today, tomorrow, next year, or 10 years from now it will be a win for JC.

One day. If not Sunday, one day. But I have faith in these young men. Leadership, heart. No doubt SW is good. But I know our heart and refusal to lose. I expect a fantastic game. Good luck to us all, may all be injury free, and let it be as awesome as I hope our first state title game to be!
