barnabus_c2001 Wrote:I agree with out of the west our qb is not accurate here lately and missing wide open receivers by a large margin. Hope that gets better when Trajon gets back id like to see how Kevin C and Trajon look in the backfield together all though that would make us a receiver short with 2 backs in the backfield. Were going to have to sharpen up when we play Murray again i figure thats who it will be and that caldwell game is shaping up to be a barn burner.
Im not buying into the Caldwell hype as much as some I guess. Some on another site say they are better than last year by 10 points, and is the best team under Barnes. Ive even heard comparisons to there 98 team. Everyone says there D is better, but they gave up 35 to North Hardin and won it by 14. Tilghman without the starting Qb gave them all they wanted, and put up 27. Christian snuck by Graves, and they gave Caldwell there loss. Franklin-Simpson win doesn't look near as good as it once did. The only team that I would say is good that Caldwell beat is Tilghman, and it was a game with Tilghmans Qb on sidelines the last 3 Qtrs. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2 back set, but I think Caldwell will be at receiver, and Tyler will be in backfield with Bright would be my guess.

It's funny how our fan base is so fair weathered on here. Let me ask you some questions to ask yourself.
Where was this cry for a 2 back set when we had Bright back there and were gashing teams, including the #7 6a team?
Where were the cries when we rolled through all except the McCracken game before losing Bright?
Where were the cries in the first 4 games period?
Now, will we not be the same exact team when he comes back?
You guys are so spoiled that you don't realize what you spew. You need to watch the movie "when the game stands tall". You down these boys and put stress on them to win every game. Let them have fun and do their thing and the wins will come. For God's sake we are 7-1 not 1-7.

Ballard Memorial was 4-2 coming into this game. Their kids and fans have to be thinking, "My God" These guys put a running clock on us and their fans think they are down".

Noone is crying, and to answer your question myself, and I remember at least 1 other poster said before the season we would like to see a 2 back set cause they are so deep at Rb, and it worked pretty good last year the few times they ran it. I never said they should have 2 backs in the backfield every play though. When Bright gets back im exited to see what happens. Exactly who on here is downing any of the boys?

Post #123 on page 5 in the Mayfield preseason thread 55 is where I said id like to see the 2 back set in case you where wondering.:cop: :letsfight

All I have heard lately at the game and all is gloom and doom. I heard some saying the other night that our QB wasn't worth a nickel. Mind you, the same one that threw 6 ints all of last year and won a title. A lot of the missing is based upon the coverage being better due to the lack of our game breaker in the backfield. If they are concerned about him in the backfield, they can't double cover Lane or Kevin. The throws that you all reference him missing are on the run, if you look at the receivers, most of the time they are tightly covered. There you throw in the general area where no one can catch it. You avoid a penalty and live to fight another down. It will change in 2 weeks.
Now, I'm referring to things like the comments you and others make questioning the boys resolve. Such as when you dogged the defense for not tackling well in OT on one of the most explosive athletes in the state in OT. Our boys were outsized in every single position in that game and held him in check and to his lowest total all year. They were getting tired in OT, who wouldn't.
Then, I'm reminded of things such as fans in our stands at state in 2011. We had a soph who was having to do a lot more than usual. We had our main weapon with a banged up knee and couldn't run as usual. We had a lineman thrown in due to the loss of our best lineman the Friday before. So this soph made some mistakes. We had fans yelling "get him out of there. We don't need him".
These types of things do not help, they deter. They mostly come from people who never played though. I am simply saying stand behind them. Quit the doom and gloom and realize just how great we have it. I promise these kids do read this stuff and they do feel the pressure.

Somebody step up and help Mayfield 7-1...

64, I thought you retired.

Wasn't me you heard downing the boys at the games. I haven't been to a game since the McCracken game. I cant see why anyone would question there resolve. I haven't been watching Mayfield as long as most posters, but I can honestly say ive never seen them quit. You are right on Hughes he is a heck of an athlete, and I think you took what I said the wrong way. I just defended the kicker, and said it wasn't all on him as Mayfield had many chances, but its definitely not easy to bring him down.
10-18-2015, 11:59 PM
I just hope I can make it to a couple more games. I hate missing them. I think I may plan on the Caldwell game, and then the Semi game. Those will probably be the only 2 I get to make it to.

Im not suggesting you were yelling anything like that. I'm just saying, I wish our fans weren't as spoiled as they act at times. I think they should be thanking their lucky stars for what we have going. We take a bunch of very smart, fast and undersized boys and go toe to toe with anyone. I promise you, I know almost everyone of these boys personally and for the most part there isn't an ounce of quit in any of them. They will give everything they have on every play. May not be very big but, neither are hornets. You get a bunch of them stinging you and you are going down.

Pound per pound mayfield is the best small team I think I have ever seen play in high school football and keeps on winning games. Something is in the water in mayfield for sure. And I know it

Iv suggested a two back set since last year as well as dual qb .. either with our passing game would be untouchable.. but that was when landon was passing at a 65-75% completion ratio..
You can't blame it on being flushed out of pocket an throwing on the run an trying to down ball .. guess that sounds bout like a good a excuse as any..lmao.. these are open passes or at least passes were there is a two step on A defender.. Our caliber of team at this level, can't let one player change everything.. uv used bright as excuse to dfence , passing , running, ect.. I under stand he plays dB on defence but he is 5'6" he is over matched every game for the most part and Caldwell Co will exploit that in two weeks .. he makes a diff ,yes but not game changing.. passing yes might make a small diff but not to the point that Caldwell an Tyler can't keep a defence honest to set up pass, come on..... running the ball is the only true diff he should make.. can he add a boost to the team for just playing on the field , absolutely, but one man is not the reason I'm CRYING bout the passing game... has landon hurt his hand or his shoulder and not told any one.. he is just sparatic .. last year he was pretty accurate, first three games this year even more so throwing in the 70+% range.. ever since idk a exact number, maybe someone can chime it in .. but it can't be but around 50+-%.. it would be nice to see him get some more reps fri.. like a lot of reps.. the passing game should be fine tuned by this point .. and this is not ment to dog landon for he is a exelnt qb and done concievibly better than any expected for his size.. but my arguments are based off of his progression.. it's going wrong way..

As I said, those who didn't play. You know how to find me, look me up Friday. I need a little coin in my pocket. I will discus at length with you how wrong you are about what Caldwell will or will not exploit against us. Now if you want to talk baseball, I might consider you having close to good knowledge but, we are talking football here.

Im curious how much football did you play. Ill admit I only played 1 year in the 4th grade unless you count the neighborhood cow pasture games we had on Saturdays which I was unstoppable as a WR, and DB in by the way, and really don't know shat about football When someone says a 4-3 stack im thinking someone is making a run to Mcdonalds for burgers.. You called out ontopofthewest for not playing so im wondering exactly how much did you play. Are you a Legend for Mayfield High school football.

I think even coach Joe is wondering about the passing game after one horrible pass along Mayfield side line coach Joe looked at landon and put his arms outstretched as to say what the hell was that Landon just shrugged.
10-19-2015, 04:36 PM
Well I did play for the Cards though not in any skill position capacity so I may not know a whole lot about being a QB or WR but from a old fat guy here is my observations. A lot of the reasons we are seeing some of the misses is because we are trying to do something different with the QB and that is roll him out and have him pass on the move which is much different that sitting back there in the pocket. Landon is a very proven pocket passer but with the inexperienced line and some big boys in our playoff path I just think we are trying to get him use to passing on the run now so if we run into teams that are able to apply pressure in the pocket we will have another way to attack and that is a whole lot tougher learning cureve but hopefully if and when that team and night come Landon will have mastered it. The upside to Landon is his intelligence and athletic ability. Though not yet used, we can let him run on those roll outs and he is very quick. Though at times over the years I have questioned Coach Morris and accused him of being to conservative he has always managed to prove me wrong in the end so I suspect he and staff have a plan. I maybe way off on my roll out passing theory but that is what I think I see them trying to do and working out the rough kinks now may payoff some Friday down the road

Killbilly, first of all, I think OTOTW will appreciate that call out since I've known the boy since he was about 10 or so. Secondly he was a pretty darn good baseball player. Third, I only played about 4 years of organized football because of borders and my mom not having enough money to send me to Mayfield a couple years that I was here.

Hey I played football.. in little league. . And my dad coached my brother all the way through along with Mikey bright and all that crew.. lol. But anyone with eyes can see a mismatch with a 5'6" kid and a 6'2" + ... lol.. if we play like we did fri I think we are beat against Caldwell .. which is ok .. I hope I'm wrong.. I'll agree with the roll out passing it is a diff than pocket passing.. killbilly I like stiring 55 up I think he is half asleep sometimes when he post..
10-19-2015, 08:56 PM
I think our defense is better thasn Caldwell counties and we will get more stops and by seeing how Tilghman moved the ball on them i think we can handle them they have some good receivers and a good young qb and we will have to know where Dee Cain is on every play but we give them match up fits with our speed also.
10-20-2015, 12:01 AM
They looked pretty fast their selves last time I watched them.. I had two losses on the season at first of there year.. Mc co. And caldwell.. if we don't have a A game an they do its over .. do I believe we can beat them absolutly.. I just figure we will be stuck in cruise cont. After district run an get out scored on early..
10-20-2015, 02:15 AM
Beyond Cain, if Burns, the QB, gets time to throw, he will cause problems. Caldwell has three good receivers who can catch the ball. Their pass defense is suspect and I am not convinced their O-line is that solid. The Riley kid is the one who ran wild against Tilghman. Not that big, but very quick. Cain was hurt for part of the game. The Tilghman game was 1td apart in the 4th quarter with the backup PT QB playing in his first extended appearance of the year. I think the key to winning is to disrupt their offense before the play fully develops and grinding out long clock consuming drives on offense...that and controlling the turnovers and mistakes. I would be surprised if Mayfield lost this game and the only scenario I see that happening is for there to be a lot of Mayfield turnovers and penalties.

You went down last year after getting stung by orange bees, then strutted away like a bantam rooster at the end.

I don't remember going down. I remember them coming back from 8 down late to get us to OT. But, I remember at end of that frame, we held a gold ball.

You should play the powerball. I didn't think anybody expected Caldwell to be good enough to beat Mayfield this year before the season started. Caldwell will have to play there A game to win, unless Mayfield turns it over a lot. Last year I thought Caldwell would probably take it, and I was bad wrong not sure what happened with Caldwell in the 2nd half of that game. I may be wrong again, but I say Mayfield wins. I think my new hobby will be stirring up 55. He sure has it down on how to tell someone how wrong they are, and tell them how it really is.
