1. WILLIAMSBURG 46
2. HAZARD 40
3. PIKEVILLE 39
4. RACELAND 38
5. P-BURG 38
I would guess overall the top 5 be about the same you could arranged them any way you want them.
Small School I would guess they will be much changed.
This maybe last year 2014 avg. :wieghts:

I've got to get all of my updates from JumperPride1 and Old Jumper though. Haven't been able to make it to a game since 2013 myself.
I know what you mean though. The inmates are running the asylum on here lately.
Actual football talk was much better 6 or 7 years ago. Very in depth and no jokesters. Personally I like it better that way. Getting off topic would get you kicked. But, I follow the rules wherever they may go. It may be extremely lenient now, but actual member numbers are up. Pick your poison

I really like Sean Hickey and Luke Woods, both are going to show case their talent this year and both are class acts on and off the field....

Offense is not a strong point for most teams in the mountains. 3 yards and a cloud of dust should have died out years ago but it persists. As younger coaches adopt modern offenses that are wither balanced run pass schemes or weighted to pass those coaches will see great success as most mountain yes can't effectively defend the pass.

A 7 yards and a cloud of dust offense has been pretty effective for Johnson Central, and in its best seasons, Covington Catholic and Highlands have not been able to shutdown the Golden Eagle offense.
You do make a good point about defending the pass and that has been the main reason that JC has not been able to beat both CovCath and Highlands in the same season to win the regional title.

But passing teams (Belfry Excluded) are the ones winning championships in most classes. Teams don't have to be spread / 80% pass; but unless they are at least balanced it becomes too easy for defenses to stuff the box and stop the run in the playoffs after 10 or 12 games of film that clearly show tendencies. Passing teams are far more varied, have more options, and thus are much more difficult to game plan. Going 10-2 is awesome and creates nice memories for kids. But it does not win state championships for most mountain teams.

Why did they not win if Highlands couldn't stop their offense? no defense?

I've noticed the biggest part of East Kentucky schools dont even seem to be able to know how to play pass defense. its like they are only taught to defend the run and not even worry much about the pass. probably because most teams rarely throw the ball.

One good thing about an 0-10 season, pretty much all of our bad posters are gone now. We're still missing JD and Norm though.

I use to love debating with Norm. When I took posting very seriously we had some long conversations. Id still like to take posting seriously but almost every poster brings little value to the table like some of our older guys
Norm might still show up every once and awhile...mostly just to read since I spend most of my Friday's traveling to or getting ready for EKU games. I'm not out on the road as much so I'm planning on catching a few high school games this year.

Yeah. I was referring to the person that said Covington Catholic and Highlands couldn't stop the Johnson Central offense.

pjdoug Wrote:Yeah. What I said was that they did not shut down Johnson Central's offense. In most of JC's losses to both teams, the Golden Eagles' pass defense was the deciding factor. In last season's loss to the Colonels' a blocked field goal was the difference. The Matney haters don't want to believe it, but the 4A title is JC's to lose this season and without reclassification, JC most likely would have been the #2 preseason ranked team in 4A, and Highlands would have had their hands full.
Johnson Central has been able to move the football on the ground against both Highlands and Covington Catholic is almost every game. Unfortunately, they have not been as effective in stopping strong passing attacks.
This JC team will probably have their best pass defense in the history of the school.

I think Lawrence County could sneak into this discussion before season end. We have an experienced offense that put up a lot of points last season. We have a very good QB who can run just as good as he throws. We have arguably the best receiver in the east side of the state with #11 Timmy Dalton. We have a new kid running the ball with some very good speed, quickness and cutting ability. We also have a pretty good 2nd Receiver and a pretty good receiving TE. The one thing that has me the most excited about this offense is the line. Our line is deep and huge this season. You will be hard pressed to find a bigger line in the mountains other then Belfry and Johnson Central. I think this Offense is going to put up big numbers this season. This offense put up 427 points last season.

Johnson Central offense was shut down or they wouldn't have lost. sugar coat it all you want but The Northern Kentucky teams are simply better about 99% of the time.

That seems obvious to those of us whose first language is English. I never said or implied that Johnson Central scored at will in their losses. That would have been as stupid as your response was.

Your English must be lacking then, because Highlands and Covington Catholic shut you down.that's why they won  ...if you played them this year they'd shut you down again. This year a Central Kentucky team will likely beat you.
