Not so fast back at ya..

I wouldn't consider being down 31 early in the 3rd hanging around for a good bit.

No love for my Blackcat's EKU?? I know the schedule has been a little on the lite side, but our only lose is to the #1 team by 1 point in the final seconds of the game on the road.

You have to admit they gave them a better game than the #3 team on your poll. Confusednicker:

In all honesty I hope this weeks win gives Pikeville the confidence they need to propel them to BG and I hope Belfry gets their kinks worked out because they have a lot of work to do. We have to remember though, it wasn't until the playoffs started last year that Belfry truly had all their issues worked out. My dream is to see both the 1A and 3A trophies come back to Pike Co. this year.

How about the 2A trophy for your neighbors in Floyd County?

They are close... it really was a hard decision whether to put them at #4

I wish Pikeville turned it over and tackled like their season opener Friday HAHA

I not so fast your not so fast of my not so fast. Boyd rushed for I think around 250 yards on that dog defense and moved the ball well. Thovson didn't play and he is really the only threat the lions have as a receiver.

Anyhow. We will learn more this week when Raceland and Lawrence hook up.

I think that yardage is a little misleading? You forgot to mention that was the entire Boyd offense mixed between three players, and the quarterback had half of the carries. In a four quarter game, even the most mediocre teams can manage 200 yards of total offense.

A hard decision whether to put them at #4, but never considered #5 just drop them to that mythical #6. :Shaking:

A famous quote I will borrow from someone we use to beat in week 0, "it was early in the season, if we played in week 4 or 5 it would have been a different outcome". Confusednicker:

Wonder where I got that one from? TongueirateSho

...... Ahoy matey. That would be my guess. Lol

"you got to beat the man to be the man." Ric Flair. Pikeville beat the man.
#40
I believe Pike is better than 1A 3A 3A and possible 4A

How does Pikeville beating Belfry put the Panthers ahead of Johnson Central?

I'm as big a Belfry fan as you'll find but the fact is Johnson Central has been the best mountain football team in EKY the past few years and I don't recall them losing to a mountain school last year or this year.

It was a great win for Pikeville over a Belfry team that is/was too caught up in their own hype. I don't really know who you guys include in this EKY poll but if I were going with WYMT coverage area teams my top 10 would look like this.

Pulaski Co.
Johnson Central

Williamsburg
Pikeville
Belfry
Prestonsburg
Middlesboro
Corbin
Bell Co.
Lawrence Co.
#42
^ I believe EKU's poll is not necessarily a 'who is better than who' poll, but a listing of the best resumes in relative terms. Similar to what I believe WYMT tries to do, at least somewhat, with their Mtn Top 10.
#43
WYMT does not cover all of Eastern KY.

MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK: Tomcats' streak a flash in pan?
0

Aaron Snyder / The Independent | Posted 22 hours ago

It’s not been a September to remember for the Ashland Tomcats.

Ashland had played more than 75 football games since it last endured a losing streak of three games.

That’s an enviable stint of success for most teams in general, let alone the area.

And three straight losses? Well, that might even prompt a loud “whoopty doo” from many coaches and fans.

Any negative thoughts or chatter stirring about Tomcat country, though, should be interpreted as positives.

If a measly three-game skid has fans getting impatient, that’s just another tell-tale sign of a program with a long history of winning.

A prime example of how temporary this decline might be occurred in 2009 with another team that doesn’t cope well with losing. Johnson Central dropped four decisions in a row before later surging to the regional finals, in which it lost to Highlands.

Prior to the Golden Eagles’ four consecutive defeats lied a string of six seasons without such a skid.

Is Ashland’s case just another of the flash-in-the-pan variety?

Time will tell, but the most important thing for the Tomcats to realize is that there is plenty of that — time — left.

Remember, it’s still only September.

Got Any “Since?”

-Ashland’s Quinton Baker hadn’t been held to fewer than 100 rushing yards since ... Sept. 27, 2013. Baker hit the century mark in eight straight games since Rowan County limited him to 42 yards last season. He didn’t play against Highlands in the playoffs in 2013. Ironton held the junior to 61 yards on Friday, a true feat for any defense.

-Rowan County hadn’t started any season at 0-5 since ... 1999, when the Vikings went 0-10. Rowan County travels to Ashland this Friday.

-Russell hadn’t possessed a trio of 80-yard rushers in the same game since ... Nov. 1, 2013. Not that long ago, huh? Well, that’s why I decided to include it. The same three backs — Nick Conley, Bronson Korzep and Jacob McKee — each covered at least 90 yards of ground against Pikeville last season. The Red Devils lose only Korzep to graduation after this season, so this may become a common occurrence.

Helmet Stickers

Four: Carson Christian (Raceland), D’Angelo Palladino (Ironton), Grant Kiser (Lawrence County), Bryce Workman (J. Central).

Christian found the end zone four times, including three rushes and a catch. His fourth-quarter TD runs of 30 and 15 yards help the Rams pull away from a quality foe.

Palladino put on a dazzling display on Ironton’s new turf, properly breaking it in with 272 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

Kiser accounted for 208 yards of offense and four touchdowns as the Bulldogs improved to 5-0 behind their quarterback.

Workman tallied two passing scores and a pair of rushing TDs to go with his 54-yard interception return on Friday.

Three: Bronson Korzep (Russell), Kane Snyder (Raceland), Bryce Skaggs (J. Central), Tristan Mitchell (West Carter), Josh Young (Raceland), Jake Wright (Greenup County), Logen Thovson (Boyd County), Jake Boyd (Fleming County).

Two: Dan Metzler (Fairview), Nick Conley (Russell), Cade Isaacs (Boyd County), Daymion Belcher (Paintsville), Morgan O’Brian (Lawrence County), Tristan Cox (Ironton), Jacob McKee (Russell), Wilder Williams (Fleming County), Dalton Stamm (Lewis County), *Zac Bruner (Boyd County).

One: Tanner Price (Ironton), Austin Terry (Boyd County), Kash Daniel (Paintsville), Patrick Rice (J. Central), Luke Schaeffer (Lawrence County), Greg Potter (Greenup County), Isaac Weddington (Lewis County), Cole Mosley (Lawrence County), Aaron James (Fleming County), Logan Morrison (East Carter).

* = added for last week’s performance

Didn’t report statistics: Rowan County, Bath County.

Snyder’s NEKY

1. Johnson Central (4-0)

2. Russell (3-1)

3. Lawrence County (5-0)

4. Ashland (1-3)

5. Raceland (4-1)

6. Fairview (2-2)

7. Fleming County (3-1)

Knocking on the door (next two in): Greenup County, West Carter.

Wide Right

Did you miss it? Here is a recap of local scores from Week 5: Ironton 41, Ashland 13; Lawrence County 42, East Carter 10; Valley (Ohio) 21, Fleming County 18; Johnson Central 43, Harlan County 14; Hazard 43, Fairview 19; Lewis County 37, Powell County 20; Paintsville 51, Allen Central 8; Raceland 48, Coal Grove 32; Russell 28, Boyd County 13; Tates Creek 41, Rowan County 20; Greenup County 32, West Carter 26 (OT); and Estill County 49, Bath County 24.

Noteworthy

-With a narrow win over Fleming County, Lucasville, Ohio-based school Valley extended its regular-season-game winning streak to 34. Valley (5-0) has beaten Piketon, Portsmouth, Symmes Valley and Coal Grove. Impressed yet? That’s why Fleming County cracked into this week’s Super Seven.

-Lewis County senior quarterback Isaac Weddington is likely out for the season after suffering a probable ACL tear, according to Lions coach Josh Hughes. Weddington had eight touchdown passes this season after having thrown for 22 scores in 2013.

I'm assuming Johnson County must be the cut off when considering teams?
