Could turf mean state finals at Commonwealth?

In years past there was absolutely no way UK Afmin were going to allow it do to the natural grass but with syn. turf Commonwealth would become a viable option. I say do 1A - 3A at EKU then 4a - 6a at Comm. Play EKU games on a Friday others on Saturday and sale two session tickets or complete state finals tickets. Fair enough?

sounds good

Wk even seems empty if this is the reason for not having it at Commonwealth. Papajohns is talking about being expanded, so it would look even more empty then. A stadium not much bigger than a good size hs stadium is needed for the games. Why not Georgetown or Transylvanias stadium. Transy is right there in lexington.

We have this same discussion year after year in one thread or another. You don't have to like it, you don't have to like what I say but, it is staying. I just think it is useless to keep bringing it up.

Bolded 1 sounds like wishful thinking. Alot of people said this same thing for years who were from the Louisville area because they loved it being so close. When the contract was up it went to Western Kentucky and now those people are silenced. When the contract with Western Kentucky is up the KSHAA will do what they want and you will have no say in it. If EKU shows interest and gives the KHSAA what they want then they will drop Western Kentucky Like a bad habit. Bolded 2 is easy for you to say because it is close for you. Not if but when it moves to anothewr place and it will at some point you will travel and like it which is what you are saying to all of us from the east with your comment.

Im not arguing, I am stating the facts. The KHSAA is going to do what they want to do. That is no matter how many of us old fat people get on here and complain. They are not going to change it. They basically have the deal with Bowling Green at little to no cost. They like where it sets and what it has to offer. They are not going to change it. Louisville couldn't even get it back. The only way it will change is if BG opts out like Louisville did. That is the real reason that it left Louisville, not because anyone complained. As a matter of fact, we had to travel further then and I did not complain and enjoyed it. I don't care where it is. If it was in Pikeville, I would travel there to watch the state game. It is only one time of the year and I go lots further places for lost less special events.

As soon as its up for bid again Lexington will get it and the 1st year there will have the highest attendance ever. Mark it down.:Cheerlead

If they do, that will be fine with me. It will be the first time that real football has been played in Lexington.

What if Mayfield don't makeit to lexington. Will it still be real football....Confusednicker:

Being in a central location will only help if a Lexington school makes it which has been a few years. Good move all around for everyone if this happens.

Yes 64, it will still be much better ball than gets played there on Saturdays. If only UK would put some of their money into football, like they do in roundball.
#41
I guess a better question would be, if none of your 64 teams make it will you still think that it was good football.

So long as it is never in Richmond, I'll be fine. Richmond and EKU as a whole do not begin to compare with Lex, Lou or BG.

Stadium wise, WKU has the best venue. And, even though Commonwealth is bigger than Papa Johns (I think? Even with the added seating) I think it would be the next best option. Papa Johns has always just seemed so much bigger than it really is.

I've seen crowds there of 7-10,000K for finals games and it seemed as though NOBODY was there.

I just think BG is a heck of a town. PLENTY of hotels, and restaurant wise....don't they have more per capita than any town in the country? They are noted for something like that.

Personally, BG and Lex are one in the same for me as far as things to do.

Louisville in terms of the city/town and STUFF to do takes the tops.

Next in line are BG/Lex. Potato-Potatoe for me.

Richmond is a distant 3rd.

If we could somehow take Houchens Field @ LT Smith Stadium in BG & move it to Louisville...THAT would be the best option.

I just don't know why everyone thinks this is such a done deal. The last I heard, UK didn't want it and KHSAA really liked what BG had to offer. It really doesn't matter to me where it is. We would come if it were in Pikeville. I just think the KHSAA has determined that it should be in BG. I think it would have to be a real outstanding offer in order for it to be moved.
#45
No shelter or roof at EKU for fans to get under and if it rains or snows the attendance would be awful and khsaa don't want to lose money

You would come to.Cumberland University in Williamsburg Mysonis55...Cumberland University is installing lights....Lexington will want it back because kentucky is back. Marked it down in the near future. :please:

I keep hearing people talk about having enough hotels and stuff.
I find it hard to believe that most of the colleges in Kentucky don't have enough hotels and things like that in the town and area they are in.
I don't know the numbers for how many people go to the Kentucky High School championships but some make it sound like this is a sold out NFL game with 75 or 80 thousand fans. One thing that I don't hear anyone talking about is of the number of people who do come, how many just come round trip to see their team play and then go back home. Some of you make it sound like everyone that goes to the thing stays for days or something.
I would say more go back home after their team is done then those who stay for one night or more. What was the total attendance in Bowling Green for all 6 games last season? Out of what ever total you get I would say about 80% of that if not more is people who went back home the same day.
#48
One motel with 80 rooms at the most for the Williamsburg and Mayfield fans. And I had a room by myself..Just about everybody drove that morning..Williamsburg had more fan than Mayfield....Williamsburg did win the fan count, Mysonis55 would have to agree with me on that score atleast. Confusednicker: I will take a win anyway I can get one. :worthy:

Not sure, but can't really count last year.....weather was terrrrrrrrriiiiibbllle. Most of the state was hit with the first ice storm of the year that weekend. The previous years have all been really good.

That's where my son tried out for baseball factory all American team last year. It's small but pretty nice.

We don't normally travel that light 64. We are usually filling up stadiums. Most if ours waited til that day to come up and then got trapped by the weather.

It would be hard to believe that UK don't want a state championship at CWS. I think since Coach Stopps got here it has changed. He wants to see some talent as well as the rest of the state. Great revenue for the city and University. Oh and by the way, Lexington has plenty of restaurants and hotels. How many do you really need?

People complain that papa johns was to big, yet they want to go to larger commonwealth? Facility wise there is no comparison between the two papa johns is a much better facility for it even though both are too large. You people get tied up to much in uk/UofL. Go to the best location for the games. For the people that argue about geography, I may be wrong but I think between Louisville and E-town is the actual half way point east to west. We have an odd shaped state Lexington is by no means the middle of the state.

EKU in my opinion is not the right venue.

WKU in all actuality is the perfect venue for the State Finals, just not the perfect location geographically.

The problems with EKU are too much to overcome IMHO, which saddens me:
1. Seating Disparity- The Finals needs to have a well defined home and away side, but the seating should be as close to "equal" as possible. Eastern has a huge grandstand but the away side are much smaller metal bleachers.

2. Covered Seats- There needs to be an abundance of covered seats for the Finals IMHO. The game is being played essentially in Winter and unlike the Semi-Finals or other playoff games you are going to have a much higher amount of full families attending the games. Case in point was last year with the inclement weather... look at the videos and see where people entirely sat.

I hear you grumbling "It's football! Suck it up!" and I agree to some extent but this is the State Finals. There is a different dynamic in play here and it is very important to make the entire experience as fan friendly as possible... especially with the walk-up crowd who attend without their team even playing. This is the pinnacle of goals and dreams, it has to come off as that.

3. Accommodations- Richmond is a town. Bowling Green is not a large city, but it is a small city. There simply are not enough quality lodging options in Richmond to accommodate the schools. Think about the size of your run of the mill moderate hotel like a Holiday Inn Express. You have probably 100 rooms on average.

The average team in the State Finals probably has 76 players (38 rooms). They typically will take another 12 rooms or so for coaches, trainers, and support. In essence two teams will fill an entire hotel on their own just from necessary participants. This means it would require 6 Hotels just to accommodate the teams that take the field. When you factor in cheerleaders, band, officials, and administration... ie the other essential participants.. I am going to assume you would need 2 more hotels. That's 8 hotels for essential participants.

Richmond has by my count maybe 5 hotels at most that are of the quality needed to host the essential members. On top of that...even if you include the "decent" smaller motels like Days Inn, La Quinta, etc you still probably wouldnt even have enough rooms for the essential people.

I know Lexington isnt a far drive, but you need nearly twice the number of rooms and probably 2-3 more hotels the quality of Hampton Inn in Richmond to host.

Moving the state finals to CWS is a no brainer. If they want it they will get it, end of discussion. It would then become an event like the Sweet 16.
