I mean...
Perry is in a district with Harlan County
The schedule Johnson Central every year.
I'm sure they'll add Hazard as soon as the contracts allow it.

This isn't a schedule for the faint of heart - he will struggle at first.
They gotta be willing to build.

I like this hire. PCC wasn't going to get a proven coach. So why settle for someone who has been coaching for 20 years but hasn't ever won a district or region title?
Every coach has to start somewhere. Im sure the first few years will be big learning years for Amis, but I don't see Perry making a mistake with this one. If anyone, they are pretty much telling people to shove it and you wont know whats coming. And we wont. You cant prepare for a coach that you know nothing about.
The people making comments about the experience and age baffle me. I know you guys know most of the coaches in EKY and lets just say, this isn't exactly a bad hire compared to most mountain coaches. Most people don't get a shot at being a head coach so young, but I say why not? Most of your "proven coaches" that some on here are saying they wanted started being a head coach just as young. Look at what Campbell did for Whitley. Whitleys football program was almost non existent and if im thinking right, I recall the paper stating he started coaching there when he was 24 and he built a program. He didn't win titles and play for regions every year, but he made Whitley relevant setting them up for someone to take over and continue that success.

I say good move by Perry. He may go 0-10 or 10-0, but either way we'll know before the seasons over if it was a good choice or not.

I don't think it is so much about age, but experience. As far as I know, he has no experience coaching, so therefore he needs someone around him who is familiar with the process of being a head coach. Haddix was young when he was hired as Perry Central's head coach, but he had two years of experience as an assistant under Holcomb at Breathitt. This is why I hope PCC can hire an assistant coach to help the young man with the process. I want to see the young man do well, and I think he will, but he needs experience around him to be successful.

I'm excited for this hire. He will have experience around him and he's going to work hard, he always has. Jordan is 23, Haddix was 25 when Perry hired him, and that didn't go badly at all, and as many others stated, every great coach had to start somewhere. Also, one thing is that Amis is home-grown, this is his alma mater and should bring some stability to the program, he is the 8th coach in 18 years for the school, and he should be able to stay as long as he wants.
#35
Good luck, Jordan.
#36
Good luck to you Coach Amis.
#37
Will Norman still be there?
who are assistant coaches?
#38
Lets give him a chance here....We all know 5A football is tough, He may not win 7 or 8 games next year but you cant judge the horse by its size. He was one of the best players Perry Central had ever so lets give him a shot. If he starts winning they be a lot of crow to eat at Paul Ray Alexznder field....Hes a Commadore and he will care more for the program than any one else they could have hired because he played their.
#39
I hope he does well..
Gotta start somewhere.
They might not win a game.
I just think it'll be hard for him dealing with 17,18,19 year olds as where he's close to the same age.

Guys perry central will have a good team this year...haddix left it in good shape. Confusedinglepar

This will end badly, wow, Not sure who all applied maybe he was the best choice, but man that is very young and never even having any high school experience, thats a long shot.

The favorite doesn't always win, sometimes the long shot wins the race.

Good luck Jordan.

Still 1 year away from graduating college.. Will work as classified employee and continue with classes this fall.
#45
24 years old wow! Maybe he can sneak on a helmet and throw a few passes. Good Luck Young Man. You gotta start sometime! Maybe he will be around for decades.
#46
Amis will do a good job, hope he keeps Norman around, he is very knowledgeable.
#47
I sure hope he does well but, Dang, 23 years old and NO coaching experience at all. I hope they allow him to hire some good help because, I promise you, he will feel overwhelmed at times! I hope everything works out for the best!!!

Lot more to coaching than x's and o's. I think he will be fine with football but the other parts may cause him a problem. Dealing with parents and administration can suck the energy out of a coach.
#50
Jordan will do fine at Perry. Just got to give him a chance and support him

Wow, that makes it a difficult situation for him to be successful. Know of at least one coach who was just as young but had some coaching experience and a degree who applied. Good luck to him, a lot of people tell you you need more experience to get a good job but then won't hire you to allow you to get the experience! Hope he does well at PCC should be fun to watch either way!:Thumbs::Thumbs:

He will do fine if given the time.

Happy for the guy but I'm amazed. Never, I mean never have I seen such a move in this hire. Too many things stacked against him but I could be wrong. Time will tell how long the parents will be patient. Big responsibility and most parents if not all will not wait long before they jump ship when things start to look bad.

This job was offered to SEVEN people more qualified than Jordan.
The last person it was offered to was Al Holland Jr. and Jordan was going to be brought in as an assistant.

I understand everyone's questions...
but IMO this is making the best out of a bad situation.

You can either hire a loser/mediocre coach... or try to hit a home run on a young gun.

I'm fine with it.
#55
Was it offered to Jeff Norman?
#56
You tell me.
#57
I dont know if it was or not, I didnt sit there through the interviews. LOL. I just think a guy that has coached at Louisville Iroquis, Morgan County, and Shelby Valley is more than capable of coaching at Perry Central. He took a team at Iroquis that had a 47 game losing streak and won some games with them. Hes coached at Perry for 3 years. Maybe he didnt want it but I thought he was more than qualified. And this is no disrepect to Jordan because I am happy for him and he may end up being the best coach that has ever coached at PCC.

Very young and still a "kid" but I hope the best for him. Jeff on the other hand knows nothing about football. Please tell me how many winning seasons hes actually had as a HC and then contrast and tell me how many losing?

These next few years will be about who's his assistants.

He won one game at Morgan county in 2007, then left. When he was at Iroquois he had three wins, the teams he beat had a combined total of 1-29 record in 2008 also left after the year. In 2009 at shelby valley his best year he went 8-4 (only winning season). The very next year he went 3-8 and left right after. He jumps ship every time the tough gets going.

I think potential is there if he is willing to work at it. Biggest part about coaching is letting the ego down and admitting that you dont know it all. If he will listen to other good coaches and take advantage of all of the great resources out there, he can get the job done. Young coaches can relate to players at a different level than older coaches. Look at Kingsbury at Texas Tech, he's young (early 30's) and his players seem to love him, brings a lot of energy to the team. Could be homerun hire for all we know, give him a chance, if he cant get it done then find someone else. Thats how this business works. Congrats and best of luck coach.
