Shawn had 34 points 13 rebounds 10 assist
And the officals were the worst by far that I saw all year, I will go into detail in the morning.

I thought both sides received some poor officiating that an average pee wee ref could make. Things like a block from a charge, walks, FOULS, and much more are just some of the things that this region's referees just do not have.Great Post!!! I agree he shouldve been gone by the first half if the right calls were made.
The game on the other hand was a great one. Magofffin took control early and dominated the second half and led by as much as I think 13. Lawrence County clawed back in the 3rd quarter and 4th and tied it up a time or two. Magoffin looked like an experienced team tonight though. They showed great poise and really looked like they wanted this game.
Thompson is a great ball player and clearly has support from the refs. He could have easily been fouled out in the 1st half if the right calls were made. Too many drives to the basket where there was plenty of contact but no call either way.
The hornets have another tough game tomorrow night and need to play at their best if they expect to win. Good luck to LC in the future and Magoffin County tomorrow.

Congratulations Magoffin. Dawgs....it has sure been fun watching you all this year. You are a bunch of hard working fellas with imo the very best coach a team could have. Randy Anderson & staff...you've made us proud this year. I consider Lawrence county so lucky to have been led by you.

I knew it was coming......my goodness batpuff do you honestly EVER say anything GOOD about the OPPOSING team rather then bashing the officiating??? Its disrespectful really.....

Great job MC. I wasn't there but I listened to it on the box and it sounded like a exciting game. Thompson, Great game! I must say it has been a pleasure watching you this year. I love your desire and heart man! LC I know it was a tough season, but you guys fought the entire way! Good Job and good luck in the future!

Congrats to the Hornets!!! Great game!!! Good luck against the Tigers.

No one from Magoffin County should be complaining about the officiating at all. The Hornets shot 28 free throws and Lawrence County shot only ten. But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story!
Anyhoo, Magoffin County simply played as hard as they had to and got great balance from Arnett, Rice and Helton. The Hornets are pretty athletic and pretty balanced when they distribute that ball around.
Nice win and nice job!

I am not taking anything away from Magoffin Co. but how man charges were called tonight, 1 against Lawrence Co player, how many time did a LC player set up and take a charge that was called a block at least 7 and then there were about 3 others that were blocking calls. And no Shawn was no were near fouling out by the half if the officals would have called it correct, if that is the case the same thing could have been said Helton as well, But the better team won tonight and I dont think they will get by Paintsville with the officals they wont let you, they protect paintsville no matter what anyone says. But good luck I would rather see you win since you beat us. It is sad that the three Senior had to go out like that. Had a chance to take the lead and get the ball back and just couldnt get the shots at the line to fall.

Paintsville hasn't been protected in 9 games this season, so its hard to say they protect them always. Thompson is a dandy, and I'm sure the new 57th will have many rivalries in it now. I think the MC and LC games could turn into a good one.
02-28-2006, 09:38 AM
Congrats Hornets, go beat Paintsville, great game Shaun Thompson (he is a heck of a player). By the way can we give it up about the refs, they made bad calls both ways.

Shawn could have and Wes Helton could have. I don't know how many times I saw him go over the back of another player and knock them around. So yes the bad calls where on both ends of the court.

The bad calls were evenly distributed and I think everyone has agreed to that except for you. The refs clearly protected Thompson tonight. After his third foul, he got away with pretty much anything and everything. Helton played a great game along with every other hornet and they were clearly the better team tonight as they showed that they wanted this game much more by tightening up on defense and executing offensively. Great job to both teams and good luck to the hornets verses the Tigers tonight.

I say let's give it up about the refs because they made so many GOOD calls.
Sure, I disagreed with several calls througout the night. But compare that to how many times the refs had to decide whether or not to even make a call. Then they had to decide which call to make. Now compare that to how many calls you disagree with.
Simply doing the math tells you the refs are NEVER as bad as you think they are.
Having said that, sometimes the refs drive me nuts, too!

What a performance by Shawn Thompson. Anybody that could make the claim that he is not the best player in the 15th region needs to get their heads examined. Landon Slone, Brad Lowe , or Brandon May cant carry his water bottle.
We are really going to miss you Shawn, good luck in your future.

All three of the Lawrence Co. senior Dawgs played their hearts out tonight. I've never seen a team play with as much heart as these kids. They never ever give up and that's what makes them special imo. Good luck to you boys in future endeavors and it was a pleasure coming to watch you!

What a statment. They can't carry his water bottle? Those are 3 of the best players in the region and Thompson deserves to be mentioned with all 3, but to say they can't carry his water bottle is a bit over-board. The last I checked all three of these players were still playing where as Thompson is no longer. Not trying to critize Thompson because he is a very good ball player, but that is an awfully bold claim. I don't think Thompson would even make that claim himself. He knows the players you mentioned are all quality ball players, but he also knows he belongs right there with them. Good luck to all of the Bulldog seniors in whatever they do.

There is no body in this region that has the whole shoot, pass, rebound package that Shawn has. He plays this way almost every night. You never know which Brandon May will show up, sometimes he acts like he doesn't even want to play. I am really not a May fan at all. Slone cannot handle pressure, and Lowe is not the passer or rebounder that Thompson is. Also none of the other 3 make their teammates better like Shawn does.
02-28-2006, 02:50 PM
The only reason the others haven't played yet is because their team got it done in the regular season not to be in his situation. Yes, he is a good player on a bad team and can't do it all by himself, but Slone and Lowe have their team playing pretty good as of late, and May has been himself all season long.

Maybe not that is your opinion and your entitled to it, but they are the caliber players that Thompson is and there is no denying that. The other 3 have not played yet because they were ranked higher than Thompson's team was and did not have to play a play-in game. All three of the players mentioned above are just as talented as Thompson. Slone not handling presseure? He is only a sophmore and already has a 50 point regional tournament game under his belt against the eventual regional champions. How much better can you handle pressure? Lowe has been the best player on the most stable team all year. He may not rebound as good as Thompson, but he holds his own and Thompson does not shoot as well or handle the ball as well. May is as good as Thompson if not better when it comes to an all around game. I'm surprised Lawrence County people don't give him more credit for what he did at LC. At LC he was hands down the best player on the floor and everyone saw it. May also has 2 wins over Thompson. I'm not saying he (Thompson) is not a good player because he is, but these young men (Slone, May, and Lowe) can dominate a gmae just as easily as Thompson and are more than worthy to be mentioned in the same breath IMO.

May been by himself all season yea right all the other three had a great supporting cast around them that made them look better than they were, with the only exception of Lowe.

WOOOOOOOOO! I can't believe that you can set there and say things like that. Have you really watched a lot of teams in the 15th region play. Evidently not. The 3 players you have mentioned are 3 of the best players in this region. Thompson should be mentioned with the group of young men, he is a heck of a ball player. However, there is one thing that he lacks that the others have and that is the quality to involve all of your teammates. Last night I felt like it was Magoffin vs. Thompson. He didn't distribute the ball much. The key to Magoffin winning the game was the fact that the other post was non exsistant. Now, people can get on here and talk this or that, about whom's the best or not, but one thing is for sure, if you don't involve your teammates, you can't win a game. Now before anyone gets on here and says that I'm wrong, I have one question, "How many assists did Thompson have?" 1 at the most. I know he is a center, but Helton is a center as well and recorded 5 assists and I might add, didn't touch the ball near as much as Thompson. So, before you go and put someone head and shoulders above the rest of the region, you need to look at all aspects of their game. Having said this, I want to commend Lawrence Co. for an outstanding season and appologize if I have said something that may have offended someone. To Thompson, you are truly one of the better players in the region, if you haven't received a scholarship yet, some colleges have overlooked a great player. My whole point to this was to have people take a look at all aspects of the game and the game itself. If you look at that and compare this player to the rest of the region, you will see that he needs to be right there with the others, but not ahead of them.

To make a statement that he doesnt get his team involved is mind blowing that you have even watched him play any at all this year. There wasnt anyone that could stop him last night, and yes he lost but he couldnt do it all. he had 34 and brafley had 11 and copley had 8 or 10 and C. Thompson had 6 and wilks had 4 and I know that I left a few other out. The only one from Magoffin Co. that I know of was Wes and he had 14.
and another thing Wes needs to learn to get in shape he gets taken out way to much, Shawn only came out twice once before the end of the half so he wouldnt pick up a cheap foul and at the end of the game so he could get the reg. he rightfully deserved.
