Your LexCath point is a good one. I have no doubt BG is better this year. Everything I see and read suggests a BG/Highlands game would probably be the best match up in the state this year.
If you go back and read all of the posts I have made on this subject in multiple threads, I don't think you will find one incident where I said that I think Highlands is better than BG. My point has always been it would take a miraculous turn around for BG to surpass Highlands. I never said it couldn't happen, I just have trouble seeing it.
As a LONG time Highlands, it is easy to get tired of hearing EVERY year, one team or another saying, "even though Highlands has owned us for a century, if they would have played us THIS year, we would have kill them." Believe me, it happens every year.

I forgot to mention there are 36 freshmen players this year.

It's still a toss up for me, Bowling Green has a really good defense and although Highlands has the 2nd best offense in the state, they haven't played a defense near as good as Bowling Green's. On the flipside, nobody has stopped Highlands all year.

John Hardin be Lexington Catholic by 10. BG beat Lex Cath 16 at the end of the season, HHS just beat LC by 21? Can't that be used for comparative purposes?
You were not at the game, were you Sir? True that BG only beat LC by 16 and HHS by 21....but LC drove the ball on HHS and if...big if take away the 2 return for TD and place 2 missed field goal by LC, it would be a closer game. HHS still would have won and a better team than LC. Against BG..LC took a dump and could not move the ball, could only muster up less than 200yrds of offense. BG was faster on D and bigger at the front line. .

BG

As an earlier poster noted, I haven't seen either team play this year, so there's no way I could pick either team as a favorite. But I do believe it would be a whale of a game and I'd drive to either location to watch it!!

I just wish we had the old 4 class alignment so we could see for ourselves this weekend.
I say no, based on the pretense that Highlands has owned BG over the years and this is perhaps one of he best Highlands teams we have ever seen. Would love to have seen the two play.

Not sure Sir if you were refering to me, but if so...I'm not a LexCath fan. I am a football fan. I just happen to live in walking distance to LexCath and Lafayette HS, which are a mile apart. I enjoy watching both teams everytime they have a high caliber opponent. It's walking distance for me to watch both. I have no kids or relatives on both schools. Yes I did watch LC vs BG and LC vs HHS and I'm only reporting what I saw on the field.

So Highlands dominates 5A like its a joke for four years. Then they move down to 4A. Then BG decides to get really good and go undefeated to the championship the same year Highlands is still dominating in their division. Automatically BG is now undisputedly better than Highlands because of this?
False.
Its a shame that we cant play on the field instead on blogs.
I think it really dumb to just say BG is better.
It would probably be a great game. almost like a real state championship game.
Wish KHSAA would go back to 4 classes
I say:
Trinity
BG/Highlands- too close

If you take away the two kick returns....you get 2 Pat Towles TD drives.
Shame you cant take things away! things happen, thats football. Numbers dont lie.

I'm not a math major Sir, but last time I checked the final was 42-21. So I stated If you take away 2 KO return for TD it would be 28-21 and If you place 2 missed FG for LexCath, it would be....grand total ( drum roll ) 28-27. HHS still wins and still the better team. Did I once mentioned that LC could have beaten HHS? I believe not.

How can anyone say Highlands has dominated Bowling Green. Since 1995, they have played twice, both in the state championship game. Bowling Green won one and Highlands won one. They have dominated 5A the last few years, but not specifically Bowling Green.

Iran or Iraq maybe but certainly not in the United States. Any source so indicating has no credibility.

Well, take away a LC fumble on the kickoff (no score as a result but prevents LC offense), a BG 70 yard punt return (7 pts), an INT by BG (leading to 7 pts), BG offense stopped on the LC 4 yd line, and BG was lucky to win.
Problem is, you can't do all that and accurately predict a game. The only thing you can say is that a BG v. HHS matchup would be a good one.

Of course these polls are not accurate, but they are a great ego boost for the teams, fans, and the state. They are not #11 in the nation to you, but to someone they are or they wouldn't be ranked so high. They are a darn good football team looking to win a state championship. All that other stuff is just hype, that apparently they have earned. Come see them play Saturday night and then let us all know how good they are. I think they're pretty good.

Every year this topic comes up. And every year it seems like we beat the crap out of BG. This year would probably be no different, had the two schools played. Heck we may even clock them. Eastern and western ky have nothing on nky football. And that includes bowling green. In fact, they've been to probably just as many title games as highlands has in recent years, but get their tails handed to them every time.

Birds hands down the #2 team in the state. Every year the rankings are biased towards Highlands. Back in 09' they were 3rd in a National Poll and 2nd in the State of Kentucky....hilarious

Could it have been possible that the #3 ranking was the hilarious part over the #2 position? It's all perspective, wouldn't you agree?

People on this forum are actually bedating on who is number # 2 in the state of Ky???? Funny..

Not when the GCL team the Birds beat spanked the #1 ranked team that same year. Good perspective, eh?

I think its a good thing that we have another team besides Trinity, St. X or Highlands that we are calling really good and actually debating this.
Call me crazy but it just makes it look like high school football in KY is getting better when you have teams like BG who are getting very strong.
Who would win between the two, who knows? We'll never know, however, i love the fact that there are more teams in KY thats starting to look like they could go out of state and win some football games.
