Hazard @ Breathitt Co 9/23
#31
You cant just look at the points and say their is a 34 point difference. Somerset ran a 90 yard blocked kick back and then scored after a huge punt return. Hazard didnt show up that night at all on offense. I believe if they played 10 times Somerset may beat them one more time.
Breathitt beat Somerset by 20 the same way I thought Hazard would. Somersets offense just doesnt look great, but Hazard seemed to go away from the plays that was picking them up big gains.

So I think Hazard will actually give Breathitt a better game, but still come up short.

Dragonsdad Wrote:I agree with your assessment. I just don't see all close game predictions. Somerset beat Hazard by a score of 14-zip and Breathitt beat Somerset by a score of 20-zip. So, there is a 34 point difference there. Hazard is going to get hit harder by a better defense. Even if their offense has picked it up somewhat, they still haven't improved that much. LCA is too far down this year for Hazard get much out of that game. I'm gonna say,IMHO,Breathitt is 28 points better than Hazard.

Comparing scores can be deceiving. Hazard probably isn't two touchdowns worse than Somerset on most nights and IMO Somerset isn't three touchdowns worse than Breathitt on most nights. After seeing both teams, I really wouldn't be surprised at all to see Hazard win. They seem to match up with Breathitt better. I think this game will be higher scoring than either of the Somerset games, something like 34-27, but I'm not going to take a winner. This should be a great game.

So if anything they are hungry and they want revenge for last year loss. So look for the bobcats to come out with the same intensity as the did against somerset, maybe even more intense because of the melt down last year.

I never said they would because Breathitt has a great coaching staff. I was just saying if they did it might be bad.

Well if Breathitt is 28 points better then hazard then id almost run the street of down town breathitt county naked. Somerset only scored 1 offensive touchdown against hazard. The other score was a blocked field goal. Somerset got in the red zone 4 or 5 times and 2 of them was because hazard fumbled the ball to them. I do agree LCA was down and it there not going to gain much from it except getting the young QB confidence that he can throw the ball and only get better with each game. I gurantee you will see a fast defense from hazard and its possible they may be better than last years defense.

I agree. These teams can all lose on any given night.

I think you have to give credit to Somerset's defense, because most or all of those turnovers by Hazard were forced turnovers. Somerset's defense held Breathitt to a season low 20 points when Breathitt was averaging nearly 50 points a game. I will grant you that Hazard's D has improved somewhat. To what extent,we don't know yet. I do know that Somerset's Lange was 11 of 16 passing and was able to get quite a few 5 to 10 yd passes in under Hazard's coverage. Hazard needs work in that area. Breathitt Co. does a great job with those under the coverage passes and will try to exploit that weakness in Hazard's D. Breathitt's reciever's do a very good job of tacking on extra yards after the catch. Those extra yards after the catch is where Hazard is going to have to stop Breathitt. If they don't it could be a long night for Hazard. You have to agree that Somerset was Hazard's biggest test to date and with those forced turnovers you can't give them a passing grade. Breathitt will apply more defensive pressure than Somerset and Hazard's offense will have to have improved a great deal to overcome it. Somerset came into Breathitt averaging right at 30 points per game and Breathitt blanked'em. Now i'm not saying that Hazard can't win. They can. But,the bar has been raised and the task will take an all out effort and execution of a nearly flawless gameplan for Hazard. Hazard is a big underdog going into a hostile atmosphere at Breathitt Co.,as Somerset did. This is Breathitt's 4th home game in a row at home. Good luck to Hazard,I like to see underdog's pull off the big win. Hopefully the Bulldog's coaching staff has addressed the problem's from the Somerset game and has them ready to win.

hazards offense dont have enough to win this game IMO!

According to Somersets stats they had 106 rushing yards and 137 passing yards. They allowed hazard 116 rushing yards and 192 passing yards. Somerset made the first man miss quite a bite before being tackled by a 2nd or 3rd man. Somersets defense showed up when it really counted, the redzone. Lange was very accurate but did throw 2 picks in the game. I will agree that breathitt offense will challenge them on the ground and threw the air.

Hazard has a great defense and they fly to the ball, but they do better against speed than strength. Collins will give the bulldogs fits with his power style running game and Trent can hurt you in both ways running and passing ,and they have some good WR too. This might be a close game at first but I don't think Hazard can stop the running game. So when the bulldogs stack the box to stop the running game,Trent and company will go to work on the passing game. On defense the bobcats are going to bring the pressure and get after the qb to make him make quick pass and bad choices. I also think that bobcats corners are better than somerset and Hazard had a little sucess aganist them but not alot.

Win or lose this game will only make Hazard a better team. They will not see anybody this good again until maybe the state finals if they get there. Prestonsburg will be another good game for Hazard. Hey,thats why they scheduled these tough games where they did,IMO. Breathitt is to Hazard what Hazard is to Harlan. In terms of level of play. Here at Harlan we are working hard to get to that level.

Agree with this Dragonsdad. Sometimes playing up in class and sronger teams even with a loss can be a plus if the players learn from it.

This should be a great ball game. Ill take hazard in a mild upset. something around 35-34. Good luck to both teams.
#47
I don't think Hazard can really do anything to prepare for this Breathitt County Bobcats team! The Bulldogs will be playing the role of Lexington Christian in this one because the Bobcats will steamroll the Bulldogs in this one!!

Breathitt Co. - 35

Hazard - 7

Trent will give hazard most of its problems because hes very elusive and you never know when hes going to pass. Hazard has seen the Collins kid for 4 years now they know what type of athlete he is and how hard of a runner he is. Hazard defense is the key in the game. If they can make breathitt turn the ball over and get short fields to work on then Hazard wins but if the defense doesnt make turnovers they will more than likely lose. Breathitt has a big play reciever like hazard does but which defense will break will be the key in this one.

Should be a great game.... GO DAWGS!!!

prolly be one of the better games to watch. ill say hazard will pull this one out though 21-14

After watching Somerset against both these teams the last 2 weeks I think this will be a really good game. Hazard could have beaten Somerset by a couple of scores if the Bulldogs could have cashed in some of their red zone opportunities or Somerset could have beaten Hazard by 4 scores if the Briar Jumpers would have done the same. Against Breathitt the Jumpers were right in the game and could have even taken a lead into the 4th quarter if they could have punched the ball in on their 3 red zone trips. By the same token the Bobcats could have beaten Somerset by 5 scores if they'd cased in all their chances. All 3 teams are very good and any could beat the other on a given night. I think playing at home will be a huge advantage for Breathitt even though Hazard doesn't have nearly as long a trip as Somerset did. The Bobcats crowd really seems to inspire their players. I do feel like Breathitt has the advantage at quarterback, running back as well as a small advantage on the line of scrimmage. Hazard has better overall receivers, special teams and team speed. Unless one team turns the ball over a ton I expect this one to be a close game. Being at home I'll take the Bobcats 35-26.
#55
This should be a very close and good game. I'll take my bobcats by two touchdowns.
#56
At this point the poll on this thread is saying 28-7 Breathitt. I also counted up the pick'em game predictions for this week and so far it is coming out 37-5 in favor of Breathitt. One could probably take it as the Pick'em picks are the more objective poll.
#57
I don't see either team scoring more than 3 touchdowns, unless there is a bunch of turnovers or special team scores. So I'll say Breathitt 21 Hazard 14.
#58
Somerset shut out Hazard and the Breathitt shutout Somerset. This is going to be a very good game. If Breathitt runs the ball like they did against Somerset then watch out Hazard. I'll take Breathitt in a close one 20-14.

Note to HAZARD: # 15 and #7 for Breathitt are the only form of offense they have. Stop the run and you will the game, assuming that you can get in the end zone yourself. Passing game looked weak for both teams to me. IMO
#59
After this game, BC will be one step closer to the undefeated reg. season that I predicted preseason.

Breathitt Co. 35-34.
