top players in the 16th region and favorites for player of the year
#31
It's a long season my friends and the season hasn't even started yet. I wouldn't hand over the regional trophy to Ashland just yet. A lot of ball has to be played first..and the Kittens will have a HUGE target on their back. Several other 16th region teams will have plenty to say about who punches a ticket to Diddle.

I agree that things might be a little different for Fraley this year.Although Chaney was not a big scorer, she seemed to be the leader of that team on both ends of the floor in the few games i watched.I do believe however that Fraley and Wheeler are allready very good will probably be outstanding as they mature. Farris is definently the player coming back that should be the best, i agree with an earlier poster that she seems to play for wins and not for numbers.Ashland should cruise this year but you never know, we are talking about GIRLS basketball where team chemistry is by far the most important thing.

I think fraley will be gaurded by everyone's best therefore her points will be very low this year.
I think Robinson will be one of the top players in region, next year, not this one. She seemed to struggle a little last year even though she is a very good player, she just needs some Experiance.
And yes if Ashland does not win region this year it will b a huge dissapointment.

Brooke Gee is a Top Ten Player. She has over come horrible coaching and now has a chance to play for a real coach. Lenny on the bench and Squiggy behind the bench last year as her coaches....whew....Happy for you Big Red to be a Lady Ram!
#35
This will be interesting to see as the season gets going the dominance by certain players and lack of performance by certain players is not far away. I believe the only for sure thing will be Farris, but who guards who? talk about experience? transfers in and out? role of players inside a team different or understood better this year? who's improved thier game? the count down begins

Now that is pretty funny!

You are correct in many aspects. Bottom line is that it is hard to make sound judgments based on Summer Ball only.

agree the bottom line is points but if your not doing that against the top 3 or 4 teams in the region or doing it against one of the better players that happens to be on a bad team imo it doesn't count because after that the region is horrible weak, heck i've seen some really good middle school teams that could beat the bottom 2 or 3 teams in the region

According to their respective coaches and the KHSAA:
Courtney Moore averaged 9.7 points per game
Mykal Farris averaged 10.0 points per game

Should be a battle for POY. Tipping point is what team went to State.

I am in complete harmony with the end of your statement! Region is in shambles.

Nice Avatar Royal Judge seems as if I have seen you on the sidelines before.I have to agree about some good middle school teams. Racelands 8th grade is really good & Fairview's not to bad either. Mckell has a good 7th grade team also.
#42
Can only seniors be POY? All I'm hearing is Ashland will only go as far as Farris takes them, and I don't believe this. Don't get me wrong I think Farris is a great player and will HELP Ashland go far, this is a very talented team and when she is in foul trouble or goes out for a breather this team will continue to score and play defense. Please don't take me wrong she is a great player and im sure will play college ball.

I think there might be some unexpected surprises coming from the Kittens bench. Just my opinion.

Must have gotten some transfers, because there will be 3 Freshmen starting this year. Robinson, Gransberry and Foutch...surprise surprise surprise...Gomer Pyle

A new player has been at open gym since school started. I was told she was from louisville and from what I was told the girl was a player. Just what the kittens need another shooter!
#46
Why would a coach bring in three freshman to replace a team that won district and region runner up. Don't think that will happen, don't get me wrong those three are great players and will play a lot.
#47
Three freshman will not be starting imo. Has anybody else heard anything about the girl from Louisville, this is the 1st I've heard about. Is she 6'4"?
#48
No she is another guard into a guard heavy region!

A lot more goes into POY than just points scored per game(at least thats the way it should be)

You don't say...That's why I posted those stats. They both are very even in every category. My point was that Moore's team went to State last year. Because both are even in Points, Rebounds, and Assists it would make since that POY should go to the player whose team won the Region. Truth of it is that both Moore and Farris are not even the best players on their respective teams. Fraley and Robinson are the ballers. Remember alot more goes into POY than just points, rebounds, assists, work ethic, good attitude, team success, athleticism, hustle,...yeah good stats mean nothing.

I do believe Robinson and fraley are good but I wouldn't say the best on each team. Let's give Robinson a chance on the floor playing high school ball before we jump to conclusions.
In the middle of the season I may agree with you, bit not now. You all want to go by stats, what about Day from fairview.

Whoa, someone is a little touchy...Unless I missed it (and maybe I did), I didn't see that you had posted stats about rebounds and assists also. Just saying that points are not the only thing to look at for POY. I'm glad you agree with me. Haha

I also agree that both are very good players, but Fraley is much more proven and no doubt a top ten preseason player. Robinson is very good but green - of course, her up-side looks very promising. It will be interesting what position Fraley plays this year - point or shooting guard. She will be successful at both, but I feel her natural position is 2-guard. If she has to play point her points per game may suffer.

I thought thread was predicting POY for upcoming basketball season in which Moore's team went to state last year. I haven't seen Boyd county mentioned in much talk this year. I do agree Fraley is the best player on Boyd co. which she proved throughout the post season and state tournament. Robinson on the other hand did not get a lot of playing time last year and is unproven on the high school level. No doubt she is going to be a good one as long as she continues to progress. Farris is a better athlete, better defender, and is nowhere close to reaching full potiential until a college works on basketball skills. By far the best player in the region now. Robinson's to have in a year or two.
#55
Yes fraley played well in post season, but no where near top player in region. She is good and will get better but she is going to have a rough few years unless boyd gets some help. Plus, she had 4 seniors that other teams were worried about gaurding. Playing good last 4 games of year does not make you top player in region. Please don't take me wrong, she is a good player but let's see how she does this year
#56
Not saying she'll be POY but I've been watching her work though out the summer at the YMCA and her skill level imo is higher than anybody elses on her team or in the region (unless someone serious transfered in I didn't see last year). People talking about her struggles last year if you look at it had nothing to do with playing on the high school level especially in the 16th but more so in being confident in her role and what was expected out of her with coaches and teammates, don't think that will be the case this year. I still feel that Farris will be POY do to her speed, strength and the fact Robinson will help her by increasing the speed and transition of the game.

I agree that it takes more than points

You Ashlanders are great at self promotion. It's a good thing that the coaches pick the POY. Hey heres a novel idea, start promoting both Farris and Robinson for Miss Basketball candidates. Bottom line is that Taylor Wheeler is the best athlete in the region with Farris a close second. Fraley has improved her game a great deal and to say she is not top ten????

So lets hear it Ashland Nation who is Bradley's starting five going be....
