Kentucky Recruits
Regie Meat is a Kentucky Wildcat.
J.Rowland ‏@RowlandRIVALS Heard a lot of good things this morning about 2014 corner De'Eric Culver from Tallahassee (FL) Godby. #OleMiss #MissSt offers.

J.Rowland ‏@RowlandRIVALS
Spoke with #UK commit DeAngelo Yancey last night. Said he got the scores he needed and is good to go. #Cats want him, to my knowledge.

While Meant is a 2 star, & the lowest rated recruit UK has scored. I like this pick up. He had offers from Iowa St., Kansas St., UCONN, & UCF. His size, strength, speed, & versatility is what sets him apart from the pack. At 6'5" 270 lbs. he can play end or tackle. With 4.7 speed in the 40, end & outside containment would not be an issue for Meants. He's the type of kid, that can come in get redshirted & help develop along for a year before throwing him to the wolves of the SEC. I can see him as a situation player tackle in 4 front & end in a 3 front. All schools get players for their potential & use them as projects. Some come out to be diamonds in the rough & others are a work in progress. Welcome to the BBN Mr. Meants.

Not seen any info although Rivals still reports he has an offer from the Vols.

In other news with recruits involving the Vols, Justin Rowland is reporting some possible good news for the Cats on 4 Star WR Shelton Gibson, whom is visiting the Vols this weekend. We'll rely on LeeCoUKFan to pass that article on later. We do appreciate you greatly for sharing these articles with us.

In other interesting news, Kyle Meadows has mentioned he may see some time at tight end. Well alrighty, then.

WR Christian Cumberlander had the opportunity to speak with UK's new WR coach Tommy Mainord, & is visiting San Diego State this weekend but may visit UK on 01/25/13. He also holds offers from Cincinnati, Colorado State, Duke, Penn State, & Washington. He's currently attending a Prep School in North Carolina

Maurice Swain 3 Star OL, & UK recruit announced he would not let his intentions known until National Signing Day.

UK is set to offer some 2014 recruits:

OLB Kyle Berger
LB Dante Booker
QB DeShone Kizer
Just heard Marquez White, has changed his visit to 01/25/13 instead of 1/18/13. He's also visiting Alabama on 02/02/13.

Stoops visiting Blake McClain in home tomorrow, I'd imagine he'll be stopping by the Woulard home as well.

Boaz Joseph tweeted out that he wanted to thank the BBN for the love.
Kentucky is now ranked #44 by Rivals in the team Recruiting class 2013 rankings.

But they are tied with 3 other schools for #44 - Washington State, Oregon State, and Houston.

UK actually ended the day at 45th tied with Washington State & Oregon State. Houston jumped to 40th & Indiana came in at 44th. With a relatively slow day on the recruiting front, I decided to do some research to see how this class is stacking up with previous classes. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, Rivals only dates class rankings back to 2002. That gives us Guy Morriss' last year, all 7 of Rich Brooks years, & all 3 of Joker's classes. I took only the top 3 classes which were all of Papa Brooks'. In 2004, Brooks' first full class, 2006, & 2009 Brooks' last class. I included some notable guys from each class, ones who played, ones who were expected to play, ones who transferred after showing promise & ones who just didn't meet their expectations.

2004 came in #52 with One ****, Nine ***, 16 **, & One No Star-Most Productive

Actually I was wrong, Joker had a Top 50 recruiting class his first year. Partially Papa Brooks I'd imagine. Which means Joker had two of the top 4 recruiting classes on campus last couple of seasons. Which make him look even worse. LOL.

UNC staff & Neal Brown were at Conner to watch Drew Barker throw this morning.
Matt Jones ‏@KySportsRadio Don't sleep on possibility of Trinity's 4 star DE Jason Hatcher and UK. If you were contemplating sleeping on it or even near it, do not
JUCO cornerback Willis commits to Cats without visit

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Cornerback Nate Willis has known for a little while now that he wanted to be a Wildcat. Wednesday morning he made it official on Twitter.

Willis made his decision known via Twitter and shortly thereafter he spoke with Cats Illustrated.

"I just verbally committed to Coach (Derrick) Ansley over the phone," Willis said. "I have to seal the deal with Coach (Mark) Stoops."

It will be the first conversation he has had with the Wildcats' head man.

"This will be our first time talking. They were basically just trying to get me on board. I had been talking to the coach from LSU (Bradley Dale Peveto) but since the corners coach took over he's been recruiting me harder than anyone other than Illinois. He made me feel more appreciated and I knew he was trying to put me in a good situation."

Willis' decision is only public today but he made it a while back. Cats Illustrated had learned that Willis was leaning towards committing to Kentucky closer to Signing Day, but he decided to move his time table up.

He has never visited the SEC school.

"I know about Kentucky," he said. "I don't really need to visit an environment for me to commit. I just have an instinct on where I want to play at."

The Arizona Western Community College product is the second cornerback, after Jaleel Hytchye of Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle, to commit to Kentucky since Stoops took over.

I don't think they will, even if they do he's like 3rd on their list. Reason I don't think they will offer, he canceled his visit with them.

Visit solidifies Bell's commitment to UK football

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Alvonte Bell arrived at Kentucky a little bit later than some of his future teammates this weekend, but in the short time he was in Lexington he realized again where he wants to be.

New coaching staff, same positive vibes. In fact, Bell has never been more optimistic about the future of the program he committed to last year.

The Miramar (Fla.) Everglades defensive end arrived at Kentucky on Saturday instead of Friday, when most of the other recruits arrived. He was late because he participated in the Dade-Broward Under Armour All-Star Game, where he recorded five tackles and shared a sack in a double overtime loss.

It was good to be back in action because Bell missed some time during his senior year with a minor injury. Still, he registered 37 tackles and four sacks in the fall.

"I had already seen everything but just going out with some of the older football players already on the team is what made it fun," Bell said.

Sophomore defensive lineman Mike Douglas was Bell's host and that was a good pairing. Douglas was also a Florida recruit committed to UK at one point.

Bell also said he liked to see a lot of other Florida recruits on campus for their official visits. That connection has made him feel even more comfortable with his choice.

"I knew some of them," he said. "I knew Regie Meant, Alex Montgomery and Boaz Joseph. I saw Regie committed and we were excited about that."

D.J. Eliot is the new staff's assigned recruiter for Bell. So far that new staff has made a great impression.

"I'm solid," he said. "Everybody has pretty much backed off. Nobody has really been trying to talk to me lately."

Bell added that he's looking forward to reaching out to Montgomery and Joseph in the near future. He hopes to try to recruit them to Kentucky before Signing Day.

Hytchye is recruit-turned-recruiter after committing to UK

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Jaleel Hytchye became the first high school prospect to commit to Kentucky under Mark Stoops on a web broadcast that hundreds of Kentucky fans watched on a live stream.

Since that time he has become one of the Wildcats' top recruiters.

He quickly scheduled his official visit for Jan. 11, this past weekend, because that's when around a dozen uncommitted recruits would be in Lexington.

"It was real good," Hytchye said. "I had a lot of fun. We've got a lot of great guys on board."

Alvonte Bell and Blake McClain were the other UK commits in town. Hytchye was thrilled to learn that Kyle Meadows, a fellow Ohioan, had committed.

"He pulled coach (Mark) Stoops aside and he, his brother and his mom walked over with him," Hytchye said. "Then all the coaches went to hug him.

"He kinda told me earlier that day. It was earlier Saturday when we were talking about it. Actually I was talking briefly to him about it on Friday, so on Friday night I kinda figured he would do it."

Hytchye has known of Meadows for quite some time.

"He's one of the better players in Cincinnati, in our area. We played against them the first game of the season. Of course, I'm a DB so I don't really watch the offensive line," he said with a laugh. "But I heard he was really good."

The near four-star cornerback told Cats Illustrated he was doing everything in his power to talk up UK while being respectful of everyone's right to make their own decision without unwanted pressure.

"Javess Blue was there coming out of JUCO. Boaz Joseph and Alex Montgomery were there," Hytchye said. "Mackenro (Alexander), Asiantii (Woulard) and Rashaad (Samples). Jojo (Kemp) and Aregeros (Turner) came in Saturday. There was a linebacker, James (Clark), and a lineman from Ohio (Antoine Miles).

"Of course, I talked to all of them. I kinda know a little bit about them. But it's their decision. Some of them are going to wait and some are going to go on another visit and then commit," he said.

Hytchye can only take one official visit to UK and that's behind him. But he's only a 90-minute drive from campus and believes he can help the staff recruit a bit more before Signing Day.

"Coach (Stoops) said they're bringing in some big recruits next weekend so I might be back then," he said.
