Applications have started flowing into the Holmes athletic department for its vacant boys’ basketball coaching position. Holmes athletic director Ron Madrick said interest has been “significant.”

“We don’t know what the number of candidates is yet,” he said. “But we’ve gotten a tremdnous amount of interest from around the state, as you can imagine.”

Holmes, a year removed from winning the program’s first state title, lost its coach when David Henley resigned last week to take the North Oldham job.

Madrick said the school would like to have a new coach in place by May 24. Applicants will be screened by a committee, which will then set up interviews. It will narrow down the list to a few finalists, who will be submitted to Covington Independent School District superintendent Lynda Jackson for a final decision.

“We’d like to get it done by (May 24), because we get out of school on the 28th,” Madrick said. “It depends on if there are any complications. But the timetable is pretty strict.”
