The C-J's 2010 Kentucky All-State Basketball Teams
#32

I'm willing to bet that had the voting been done before the sweet 16, Sewell gets the award. Look at how many sweet 16 tourney mvp's (seniors) have won Mr. Basketball over the years and then compare it to how many votes they received for first team all state. You'll be surprised...which goes in to my whole theory that politics are a major factor of who wins Mr. Basketball.

When examining head-to-head matchups, we sometimes forget about intangibles.

Best example I have seen this year was Stanford WBB team. They played Duke and UT before playing UConn earlier this year. They showed in the title game that they could play with UConn better than most, but couldn't do it earlier in the year because of the scheduling and intangibles of it.

Look at the Kentucky women this year, they were able to use just 6-7 players for the bulk of the season when they had a couple days off between games. When they got in the tournament and had to play 2-in-3, it showed. The lack of depth on the roster, not depth on the team (big difference) finally caught up with the Cats.

Sometimes we need to take a step back in the world of sports and look at why things happened, especially when we start firing coaches quickly at some levels, and not just look at the fact that they happened.

Think about this for a second, let's say team A is the #1 ranked team in the state and the #1 or 2 seed in their own district tournament and team B is the #2 ranked team in the state is the alternate seed in that same district... The team that loses that district final game between that #1 and #2 team in the state is going to be at a disadvantage in regionals just because of their geographic location. Do we think about how this can affect a team?

Do we put into play how the havoc with the weather changes things for teams this year? In the major cities, weather played a bigger part in scheduling than it has in the last decade.
