Covington Holmes High School standout senior Elijah Pittman has signed with Chipola College - a two-year junior college in Mariana (Fla.).
Chipola coach Jake Headrick said the 6-foot-7 Pittman can "be special," for the program that has produced two of the past three junior college Players of the Year.
"We found out about him early, saw him and right away could see the talent," Headrick said. "If he can take care of his academics, he could play anywhere in the country in two years.
"He's a kid that is going to be a special player. He has a lot of talent and potential."
Pittman has been considered one of the state's best athletes since he broke onto the scene as a sophomore during the Sweet 16. After playing much of that season on the junior-varsity team, Pittman averaged 15.4 points during the Sweet 16 run that ended with a loss to Mason County in the title game of that season.
As a junior, Pittman averaged 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds and then during his senior year averaged 15.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocked shots, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals.
Pittman finished his career with more than 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
Chipola has sent 44 of 46 players into the Division I ranks the past six years.
