Scott Co. Scouting Report
#1
Scott County

Starters

4 – Kristen Stainback - 5’10 guard – Great guard sees the floor very well. Likes to fade towards the right side of the floor in transition and will cross you over to get into the middle of the lane. On defense she will leave her man if their trap is on in the half court.

14 - Breonna Mckee – 5’7 guard – Likes to drive and get into the lane, isn’t much of a scoring threat nor does she play on the ball during defense. Smallest player on the floor for them at just about any time and is primarily only used as a ball handle in the half court set.

21 – Madisen Webb – 5’10 PF/G – Is a major threat from all over the court. Likes to fade to the wing for a skip pass or shot in transition. Does not care to take the ball inside on you, struggles handling the ball if you push her to the left side of the floor. Does not do much of the ball handling and likes to run baseline in the zone offense. Post players must account for her.

24 – Tereka Guyn – 5’10 guard – Runs the baseline in the half court set but flashes high post in the high low offense. She is their best defender and is normally on the opposing teams ball handler.

54 – Alex McKenzie – 5’10 forward – Is their key post player, in their half court set she stays at the free throw line and is utilized as a pick. If they are running high low she can catch you off guard with her post up ability but doesn’t do it to often. Watch for her mid range jump shot. Rarely shots but is strong on the boards get a body on her.

Key Bench Players

11 – Audriana Christopher – G – Looks to shoot every time she gets the ball. Will not put the ball on the floor unless its in transition. Floats to the corner if the half court set. If you pressure her she will not shoot, however if you do not account for her she will nail you hard with some 3s. If there is any pressure though she will look to pass out to set up the half court offense. If she is their primary ball handler she always goes to her right side and will look inside if McKenzie is posted up.

22- Ally Conrad – G

They are seven strong can go nine if they get into foul trouble using Logsdon (20) and Huellemier (44). Conrad is a threat from the outside they push the ball to her in transition on the wings. Conrad does not look to drive she looks to shot first then pass second but is not a prolific passer.

Their zone offense is very simple, a lot of high low looks using 3 guards, a baseline runner and McKenzie on the freethrow line. If McKenzie receives the ball at the free throw line she will not turn if a body is on her she immediately looks for her outlet on the wing. If she does turn there is always a back door cutter usually Webb or Guyn. I saw some flex in there when Woodford was in their triangle and 2. You will have to match up with them at some point if they begin shooting well. They have great shot selection so hitting the boards on their misses is crucial. There transition offense is weird because they do not look to hit the lane they first look for the 3 if not then they look to go inside even with numbers a 3 from the wing is there look. No 3s were taken from the top of the key.

Defenses

They will run several full court press looks at you but their half court set never changes. From what I saw they have no zone, however, if you get into the lane you will force them into one. Against Woodford Co. 23 of their 44 points in the first half came off of turnover, forcing 14.

Man -2 – Man – Only half court set I saw, Guyn if in the game will be on Bevins and they will look to trap her every trip down the floor no matter where it’s at. Other guards half to be willing to handle the ball and make smart decisions. Spacing is crucial in the half court set and high ball screen will get your guards into trouble. If you set a high ball screen the defender will hedge off and set a trap.

At times they go full court with the Man denying first pass then drop into contain looking to trap at half court. Must have someone flashing middle then look for an outlet on the side after ball goes middle defenders collapse.

2-2-1 – Normally goes to this after first Timeout. It is a contain much like their man to man. Will look a lot like a Man actually. They deny the center of the floor much like Betsy Layne and trap corners. They do not go to this much.

1-2-2 – They Deny first pass and trap the first pass. Defender denying pass in takes middle of the court, 2 guards deny the sideline which is typical. The off the ball defender slides over so it looks like a triangle, if you have some one flash towards the middle at half court its easy to beat. Woodford looked for the quick pass back to the in bounder and got caught bunched up. Keep the floor spaced, be patient and continuously have people flashing in and out into the middle of the court.

If you get into the lane in the half court you should have a kick out for the 3. May not want Bevins handling the ball if you can let someone else handle the ball to free her up for some mid range jump shots. Look at your Sheldon Clark film some of their half court sets will be ideal playing against Scott Co.

Scott screens a lot using McKenzie two or 3 screens a possession. Must be talking at all times and get a hand in the face of shooters. Do not let Stainback into the lane. Mckee will not shot unless she is in the lane didn’t take a 3 at all against Woodford. Conrad, Webb and Christopher are their deep threats, Stainback will shoot from deep but would rather get into the lane or out on transition for a run out.
