Wrestling Legend Jack Brisco Passes Away At Age 68

TAMPA - Local wrestling legend Jack Brisco has died at age 68.


Dave Meltzer of www.wrestlingobserver.com reports that Brisco died this morning after suffering several complications from open heart surgery over the past week.


Brisco was born in Oklahoma in 1941, but moved to Tampa during his professional career.


Brisco was an NCAA wrestling champion at Oklahoma State, before joining the professional ranks. His accolades as a pro include two National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) heavyweight championships and several NWA Florida tag team titles, which he won with his brother Gerald.


The two siblings, along with their brother Bill, opened the Brisco Bros. Body Shop in Tampa over 30 years ago.

Jack and Gerald Brisco were inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame in March 2008, the night before WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando.

TAMPA - Family members and dozens of friends from the wrestling business paid their final respects to Jack Brisco on Thursday.

Bright House Sports Network's Drew Fellios reports that Edge, Steve Austin, Pat Patterson and Dusty Rhodes were among the wrestlers who attended the former champion's funeral, with World Wrestling Entertainment announcer Jim Ross delivering a eulogy.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Former Oklahoma State NCAA wrestling champion Jack Brisco has died at age 68.

The university said Tuesday that Brisco died on Monday after suffering from heart disease.


Brisco was a native of Blackwell and was the 1964 and 1965 Big Eight champion at 191 pounds. He was runner-up for the national title in 1964 and won the NCAA championship the following year. He finished 27-1-1 as a Cowboy.


He wrestled professionally after college and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.

He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters, three brothers and two sisters. Services were pending.
