Ashland Blazer / Rose Hill Score?
#10
Skip Pass Wrote:[quote=Truth]You can never be too cautious when you are dealing with the safety of children and their families. The parking lot was covered with about an inch or so of snow but I'll bet it was long ago removed with church services in progress this morning. In other words, the weather conditions were, to me, an excuse rather than a reason. To reschedule would be nonproductive for both.

Honestly, I can see no benefit to either team in playing the game. The only intrigue would be just how bad Bradley wants to beat Rose Hill- 30, 40, 50, etc. To many Kittenites, the more the better since some still have a need for an exorcism to erase the memories of Rose Hill's trips to Bowling Green. And, in the process, games such as this one often produce unnecessary injuries. As for Rose Hill, there wouldn't be much of a crowd, even if the boys play, so no money would be made from the event. I never thought it was prudent to be humiliated just for a gate but I know some disagree.

Although this is a district game, the precedent for not playing is established. As some should recall, both Ashland and its "me too" buddy, Boyd County, refused to schedule the Rose Hill boys during the 2002-2003 season choosing instead to take two district losses. And, to be fair, that probably wasn't a bad decision.

Since the Rose Hill boys have been placed in Purgatory by KHSAA, there is nothing to be gained by either team in playing those two games.[/QUOTE

I agree with a lot of what you say here Truth, but as for the possibility of Bradley running up the score, I don't think he would do it. He is one of the better coaches in the region that pull off the press, pull his starters, etc... before the score gets totally out of hand. From what I've heard and seen about Bradley, he doesn't seem to be a coach that would embarrass an opposing team just to satisfy some Ashland fans who have a vendetta against RH. I think that he cares about the kids too much, both the ones on his team AND of the opposing team.

It was not my purpose to say anything negative about Coach Bradley. He is a good coach and I always wish him success. However, some games are such that you can't help from running up the score. This would be one of those games. To me, it increases the humiliation to the weaker team when the better team holds the ball or quits shooting. And, it seems that injuries sometimes occur in such games. Neither team needs any injuries this time of year.
