No. 1 Trinity Register Win at Clay County
Shamrocks Win 20th Consecutive Game

MANCHESTER, Ky. – No. 1 Trinity used a 12-2 run in the third quarter to pull away from Clay County in Manchester for the Shamrocks’ 20th consecutive win, 66-56.

Leading Mr. Basketball candidate Josh Sewell and senior Taylor Epley each scored a game-high 20 points for the Shamrocks in the win.

The Shamrocks won their 20th consecutive game and improved to 19-0 on the season when playing away from home. The Shamrocks improved to 21-2 on the season, tying the best 23-game start in program history. The Shamrocks also started the 2004-2005 season with a 21-2 mark on its way to a school best 29-4 record.

The Shamrocks ended Clay County’s four game winning streak. The Tigers had won seven of their last eight games entering the game with the Shamrocks. The double-digit loss for the Tigers was just their sixth at home since the start of the 2003-2004 season, one of the state’s most difficult places to win.

For the second straight night, the Rocks got off to a strong start, opening with a 9-1 advantage to start the game as Taylor Epley scored five of Trinity’s first nine points. The Tigers stormed back, taking a 12-9 lead of their own before the teams exchanged leads throughout the remained of the half. Trinity led 32-30 at the half after scoring the final four points of the half.

The teams were notted at 34-34 before Trinity scored 12 of the games next 14 points to take a 46-36 lead and didn’t trail the rest of the way.

Trinity returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 when it travels to Jeffersontown for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Earlier this season, the Shamrocks defeated the Chargers 68-60 on Jan. 15, 2010 in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Coca-Cola/Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament.
