One questions, if these kids are that bad how come Jim Matney can take the same basic kids and comptete at the state level in football?

We got the right coach for football, why can we not do the same for basketball?

For the most part, a football player does not have to have the refined skills of a basketball player. In other words other than maybe a "passing" quarterback or a kicker there is not much polish time required to be successful at your position. (However I will say that being able to operate a belly offensive it's an art in its self too). For the most part you have to be physically dominate in hitting, blocking, or tackling to be successful, or be naturally athletic with your feet. Everyone knows I am a huge Matney fan, but how many passing QB's has JC cranked out? How many kickers that can kick like they continually crank out of Bell Co., Middlesboro, or Lex. Catholic does JC continually produce? None on both accounts. And you dont blame the coach for not developing that either. Kids have to held responsible and accountable for how they prepare and develope their own skills too. Kinda goes to show me these same kids dont spend a whole working on refinement in those areas either. As far as the basketball players we have right now, if brute force was what basketball was all about, they can compete at a high level in that aspect right now too. Unfortunately that is not what basketball is all about.

In football, (especially in 5A), a showboat has a way of getting himself humbled real quick by his opponent. The game, the way it's designed has a very effective (legal) gang effect built in attitude adjuster that takes care of that within it's own structure.

Unfortunately the game of basketball in this day and time thrives on showmanship and individualism. Pampered primadonnas, you might say, thrive.

The most successful of all the sports programs at JC is the baseball program. They also use some of these same kids. The successful ingredient that has applied by that particular coach to adjust attitude problems is to bench the player. And if that doesn't get the message across, they go home. He's not always popular with mommy, but he controls his attitude problems the old fashioned way. I've always admired the "we're gonna do everything we can to win philosophy, but we'll dang sure loose with class if that's what we have to do", too. So far, it's worked out pretty dog gone well.

I'm 100% correct on all of this, aren't I?
