SHAMROCKS OPEN 2010 WITH NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC
SHAMROCKS WON TITLES IN STATE’S TOP TWO HOLIDAY TOURNAMENTS

Coming off two impressive holiday tournament championship runs, the Trinity Shamrocks open the 2010 portion of the 2009-2010 season against Newport Central Catholic.
The Shamrocks are playing their ninth consecutive game away from home this season. The Rocks are 10-0 away from home this year.
Senior Josh Sewell has established himself as the leading candidate for the Mr. Basketball award in the state of Kentucky. He has been named the Most Valuable Player of the Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass and Republic Bank Holiday Classic this season, becoming only the second player (Chris Lofton) to win both of the awards over the course of their playing careers.

STATISTICAL JUMP SHOTS
• Senior Josh Sewell has scored in double figures in 11 consecutive games.
• The Rocks have won 10 of their last 11 games overall, including eight straight.
• Trinity’s current eight game winning streak is the fourth longest of the Mike Szabo era. A win against Newport Central Catholic would give Trinity it’s fourth nine-game win streak or better during the Szabo era. The longest win streak of the Szabo era is 12.
• Trinity has won ten straight games away from home to start the 2009-2010 season.
• Trinity is allowing just 52.2 points per game this season. Just two of Trinity’s 12 opponents have reached the 60-point plateau this season, but the Rocks won both of those contests.

2009-10 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior Josh Sewell is the leading candidate for Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball Award
• Trinity wins 2009 Republic Bank Holiday Classic for the second time in program history. Senior Josh Sewell is named Most Valuable Player of the event. He is joined on the All-Tournament Team by Daniel Corbett, Taylor Epley and Charles Foster.
• Trinity wins 2009 Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic for the first time in program history. Senior Josh Sewell was named the Bob White Most Valuable Player of the event and to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 20.5 points per game. Senior Taylor Epley was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.0 points per game in the four game span.
• Senior Josh Sewell averaging 25.7 points per game against district opponents (three games).
• Senior Josh Sewell signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Miami (Ohio) on November 11, 2009.

GAME NOTES
Sewell is Leading Mr. Basketball Candidate
Trinity senior guard Josh Sewell is a top candidate for the Mr. Basketball award in the state of Kentucky. He hopes to become the first player from Louisville to win the award since 2005 and the first to ever attend Miami (Ohio) following the receipt of the award.
• Sewell has claimed Most Valuable Player honors at the King of the Bluegrass and Republic Bank Holiday Classic.
• Sewell joined Chris Lofton as the only player to be Most Valuable Player of the both the King of the Bluegrass and Republic Bank Holiday Classic during their careers. Lofton won both awards in 2002 despite not winning the team title in the King of the Bluegrass. Lofton won the MVP of the Fifth Third Classic in 2002 and 2003.

Shamrocks Finish 2009 with 21-9 Record
Trinity finished the 2009 calendar year with a 21-9 record. The Shamrocks won 20 or more games in a calendar year for the first time since 2006. The Shamrocks were 21-10 in 2006.
• Trinity ended the year with an eight game win streak. It is the longest for the Shamrocks since a seven game win streak to end the 1995 calendar year during the 1995-1996 season.

Shamrocks Playing Four Catholic Schools in 10 Days
The Dec. 30, 2009 overtime win over Lexington Catholic marked the first of four games against Catholic schools in a ten-day period. Trinity will face Newport Central Catholic on Saturday in Northern Kentucky before returning home to face Holy Cross on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 and traveling to DeSales on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. The Shamrocks will also face rival St. Xavier on Jan. 22, 2010 at Freedom Hall.
• The Lexington Catholic game on Dec. 30, 2009 marked the eighth game in 14 days for the Shamrocks and the ninth in 16 days.
