Shelby Valley 105 - Logan (WV) 91 (Fast Lane Classic)

First off, let me state that I have yet to see either of these two talented young men play. Let me also state that I have no affiliation to either school.

You people are failing to include the most important aspect of basketball. The TEAM!!!

Cottrill scored more...maybe he is required to score more because that is what is needed for his team to win.

Justice had more assists...maybe that is what he needs to do for his team to win. Maybe Cottrill does not have the caliber of teammates to pass to.

Justice finishes better around the rim....maybe Logan's interior defense is not as good as Shelby Valley's.

I could go on forever with these scenarios. Both guys are going to do what is needed by their respective teams. You are trying to compare apples and oranges. Yeah, I know they play the same position, but they play different styles from what I can gather. Who are we to say which is better. We can't! We can give opinions and we all know what opinions are like.

Obviously, both are great players with a lot of potential or two of the best college basketball coaches in the country and maybe of all time would not be after them. Say what you want about Cottrill, but Bob Huggins would not give him the time of day if he could not play at the next level. Also, say what you want about Elisha Justice, but Rick Pitino would not give him an invited walk-on if he could not play. He obviously could play D1 at another school on scholarship, but he made a decision that he felt was best for him.

Give each their due and quit arguing about nothing.

And this ladies and gentleman is the only post in this thread actually worth reading and taking seriously.

Cottrill drops 43 and all I see is excuses that he got a lot of his points from the line. Usually when a kid gets fouled it's because the other team can't guard him. Last time I checked, getting to the free throw line was a good thing.

Justice scores 37 and has 10+ dimes but a certain poster or two try to downplay it because he isn't on scholarship. I don't care who the competition is, that is an impressive game.

Both players are very good at the high school level, but there's a reason Cottrill is ranked where he is. He has more COLLEGE POTENTIAL. Justice may be just as good of a HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER as Cottrill, but one translates to the next level better than the other which is why you see the difference in the two as to where each is regarded amongst college coaches and scouting service.

To the overzealous SV and EJ fans though, let's not go overboard. Some of you are the reason that people bash your team and EJ. You try to think of any and every excuse of why Justice is the better player or does this or that better than anyone he goes against and then get defensive if someone points out a flaw in his game or says something that doesn't praise him.

With that said, nice win for SV and good luck this upcoming season.
