I don't know about that one f-ball. If you are a kid who wants to play quarterback at the next level (any level above high school) You are not going to get that chance at Russell. You won't get that chance if you are a reciever either. One thing I will say though is......Isn't it strange that almost all high schools and colleges run the spread but, when you get to the NFL they want you to get under center and hand the ball off and take those 3-5-7 step drops. I will add this fact also.....There are really only 2 teams around here that have done anything at the state level and those 2 teams would be Russell and Ironton and , they are both ground oriented teams. Honestly though if I was a kid I wouldn't want to play at either place. If I'm at russell If I'm not a guard or an all world running back I'm not going to have any fun.

I gotta call you out on this one old pal. If you are a good enough player colleges will find you. Even if you are a QB in a ground oriented offense. Example: Randle Cobb. Better example: Brett Favre.

If you are a linemen it really doesn't matter if you run the spread or the wing t or the veer. You are not going to get the glory. In fact it is more fun to run block than pass protect. It is really more fun to win.

Kids play football because they love the game and if you are good enough for the next level they will find you no matter what system you played in in high school.

Also Russell is by all means a ground oriented team every year under McGlone, but I think it is a misconception that they never pass. If he has the players and needs to throw the ball Coach McGlone will pass. In fact from 2005-2007 I believe he had a 1,000 yard passer at QB in each of those seasons. If not over 1,000 they were close to it.
