They made the second round of the playoffs I believe 4 years straight between 99 and 2002. In 2000 they had the third best record in 3A at 9-3 and also finished 2nd in the district of Highlands, Covcath, Dixie Heights, and Scott.
The drop to 4A will help Holmes tremendously. One of the biggest reasons the program started to decline was they jumped from 3A to 6A when they re-classified. Holmes had 2 losing seasons in a row and the numbers started to decline. If they can win a district championship this year or host a playoff game (both very possible), you'll see the old Holmes' football program return to what it once was.
Actually they only jumped to 5A. They were in a district with Cov Cath, Highlands, Scott & Dixie. They learned there were some errors in their enrollment and petitioned the KHSAA and were allowed to move down.
