Refered to a lot as Covington Holmes. They are very athletic but still trying to find an identity as a football program. I would speculate they will have a chance to win the district they are in.

I never remember them being 1 of the top 10 in the "old" 3A??????

early 1990's they were

Late 90's early 2000's they were a very solid 3A team. Heading in to the 2003 season (Brandent Englemon's senior year) they were preseason #2 or #3 in the state for 3A. They made the second round of the playoffs I believe 4 years straight between 99 and 2002. In 2000 they had the third best record in 3A at 9-3 and also finished 2nd in the district of Highlands, Covcath, Dixie Heights, and Scott.

The drop to 4A will help Holmes tremendously. One of the biggest reasons the program started to decline was they jumped from 3A to 6A when they re-classified. Holmes had 2 losing seasons in a row and the numbers started to decline. If they can win a district championship this year or host a playoff game (both very possible), you'll see the old Holmes' football program return to what it once was.
