Scott 48 - Bishop Brossart 44
#6
reprinted from: http://www.bmustangs.com/

The Friday night showdown with the Scott Eagles and the 37th District top seed on the line was a game of momentum swings.

Scott tried to make quick work of the Brossart Mustangs in the first quarter, limiting the Stangs to only three field-goals - three-pointers by Joey Webb and Jordan Armstrong and a conventional basket by Drew Kremer, as the Eagles ran out to a 16-8 first quarter lead, and then had amply opportunity to blow it open before the Mustangs solved the Eagle press, and went on an 18-7 run to grab the lead 26-23 at the half.

The first three minutes of the second half belonged to the Mustangs who pushed their lead to ten points on two occasions, but still failed to capitalize on additional opportunities but still led by seven, 40-33, after three quarters.

Momentum then became discontented with the attentions of the Brossart Mustangs, changing affiliations in the fourth quarter and snuggling up with the Scott Eagles who held our Mustangs to only a pair of field-goals and a total of four points, as the Eagles put 15 on the board, to edge our guys 48-44.

Joey Webb led all scorers with 15 points, on four three-pointers, including a four-point play following being fouled in the act of shooting and connecting on a long-range bomb. Drew Kremer added a 10 point, double-figure performance, and Jacob Rieger, plagued with foul trouble throughout the second half, was limited to 6 points. Sophomore Travis Norton turned in a huge performance coming off the bench with 5 points, and a great defensive effort.

Nikola Gligorevic combined with birthday boy, Jacob Niederegger to account for 21 of the Eagles' 48 points. Sophomore Kellen Smith put up 9 points including a pair of three-point daggers in the fourth quarter.

Congratulations to good friend Brad Carr, Athletic Director Ken Mueller, and the Scott Eagles on earning the 37th District's top seed. They will play the winner of Silver Grove - Calvary for a berth in the district finals and a ticket to the 10th Region Tournament at the Bank of Kentucky Center, the week of February 23rd. Brossart and Campbell County will square off in the opposite bracket for the remaining finals berth, and regional entry.

Our Mustangs will now focus our attentions on the upcoming "A" regional tournament, commencing this coming Monday in Augusta
