Magoffin County 59 - Johnson Central 58
#47
The big problem with JC right now is the guard play. JC doesn't have shooters. MC did a good job of collapsing on the interior players and forcing JC to shoot from the outside. I don't know how many 3's they hit or how many 18 foot jumpers they hit but it wasn't many. The one key ingredient missing right now is that consistent rise up and knock down the 3 ball shooter. Dale, when he has his feet set can shoot the eyes out of it, Whitaker when not facing pressure can knock down the three but no one can create their own on the perimeter for this team. Coach McKenzie has done an outstanding job so far, he does have some attitudes that he has had to deal with but for a young coach, he has done a pretty good job. The younger groups are where part of the problem lies. There are too many coaches that are not worried about building good fundamental players to build the high school program but instead they are only interested in winning. AAU needs to make a big comeback in Johnson County. Look at any of the successful high PROGRAMS (not teams but programs) and it starts with people that have a passion for the high school program coaching in the AAU circuit. I know that alot of people will not agree with what I have to say but I think that off season is one big problem with younger kids and getting better. One of those problems is also video games. Kids just don't get out on their own and become better players anymore because it is easier to sit and play video games.
