It's amazing that this thread has had this many posts. That speaks well for the fans of the 56th district and their support of their teams.

BUT.....

....it's also kind of a problem with the thinking in the 56th. The discussion is usually about who is going to win the district. The other districts in the region are thinking about "Can we win the region?" The main thing they're concerned with is getting past the first game in the district to be able to play in the regional tournament. I've seen some very good teams from the 56th in past years that might have won the region, but they peaked out after cutting the nets down at the district tournament.

Just a thought. A friend and I were having this discussion a while back and he brought it up, and I told him, "You know, I hadn't thought about that, but you're exactly right, and it's in girls basketball as well."

I could not agree more but in the defence of the 56th, 99% of the time they must travel the largest distance to the regional site. With the exceptions being when the regional tournament is held at Breathitt or Powell.
