And you are right in the fact that Matney is a good coach. But considering that JC has pumped in enough money to match a small college's budget on facilities and coaching and considering the size of the school, Matney should be in the finals every year. With Matney's high pay, he should be turning in awesome results every year. So far he has been able to do it! The true test is whether he can keep it up in the years ahead. I wish him the best. Because JC really doesn't compete with Paintsville, they are in different classes. But Matney's success brings recognition to Johnson County and Eastern Kentucky and that is what I like to see from a state level. And if Paintsville exists in the same county and has success as well, that makes it all the better. Hopefully Kinner can continue the great Paintsville tradition in Class A. It's been made mention of many times about coaches salaries. While some may consider what a coach makes to be extravagant one needs to consider the revenue that the football program now brings to the coffers. For the most part I think it is safe to say that there may be an average of maybe 3000 fans at an average game, the marquee games as many as 5-6,000. I can remember when you might have 300 show up for a game. Take into account with not only what just the gate now brings in, but tack on consessions and other various fund raising tokens, I feel safe in saying that the coaches salary is way more than taken care of as well as a major portion of the entire athletic budget subsidized for the year by football revenue. In business we just call it marketing your product. Sometimes to make money, you have to spend money.
