Have you ever seen a guy wanting fans approval from his hometown more than him? 1 winning season since he became a Red and that was the first season he was in uniform. This trade was a no-brainer. You're not gonna pick up his option, he's 38 and obviously unhappy (giving interviews earlier this year about his desire to go back to Seattle). I think it's just best for both parties. JJ, I think this deal is good for both the Reds and Griffey. He gets a chance to be in a playoff race and have a shot at a ring. The Reds get to move on from the last few years and start a new, post-Griffey era.

I really think that both he and the fans share the blame for their relationship deteriorated. A bunch of knotheads around Cincinnati blamed him for all the Reds' shortcomings, and made it seem as though all the injuries were somehow his fault. Junior, on the other hand, lumped all the local fans together and made it seem as though the entire city had turned its back on him. In the end, the relationship was probably beyond repair, and it's best to just cut ties...
