Icy roads were being blamed hundreds of accidents across the state Tuesday morning, including one that killed an emergency official and a pregnant woman in eastern Kentucky.
Paintsville EMS Director Christa Burchett was helping a pregnant woman injured in a car accident when a coal truck skidded and struck both women, killing them, Johnson County Judge-Executive Tucker Daniel said.
Daniel said the accident occurred off U.S. 460, about 5 miles west of Paintsville, where the roads were slippery with light snow
and slushy ice. He said Burchett was helping the woman, whose car had skidded off the road, into an ambulance.
Daniel said the coal truck was coming over a hill and braked, but slammed into a police cruiser and ultimately the two victims.
No other serious injuries were reported.
Some school systems canceled classes because of the threat of slick roads.

What's even more sad about this whole situation is the pregnant woman's husband works at the Sheriff's Dept. in Magoffin County. She called him and told him she was in an accident and that she was waitin on the ambulance. When Magoffin County Sheriff went to tell the man his wife had been in an accident he told him he already knew about it that she called him and told him, unaware of what happened after he talked to her.

Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family and anyone else who might have been injured/killed in wrecks today.
