Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Jason Varitek, Jacob Ellsbury, Johnathan Papelbon and Jon Lester have either spent their entire careers in Boston or came up through the Boston orgainization.
David Ortiz was a castaway from Minnesota and Boston took a chance on him. What a chance that was.
Don't get me wrong, they spend the money. Just look at Manny and Dice-K. But the secret of their success may be that they have a balance mix of homegrown talent and game-changing acquistions. They're not "all" about money.
