Top Players in 15th Region?
#15
Pacman Wrote:I think Scott Little may be the best all around player. He has a great career batting average, he plays a solid outfield - could probably play infield if given the chance, he has a great arm, he has power at the plate, he can pitch with speed and location and throw 3 pitches for strikes. His only weakness from what I've noticed is that he has some arm problems every now and then.

Justin Blanton is a very great player all around too. He has a great bat, and great on the mound, but I think Little has him edged out because Little has more power. Little has hit more than 10 HR's in his first 2 seasons, and even more doubles. He's also just as fast if not faster than Blanton.

Daniel Pugh could make just as good a case as these guys. Matt Fyffe could also arguably make a case.

Another couple of guys who could very well be top of the region come from Lawrence County - Tim Hayes and Morgan Roberts. Hayes has power and is by far the best catcher in the region. Roberts is a smooth SS, and a solid pitcher.

MacKenzie Carter of Pikeville is another who may make a case for region's top player by season's end.
Scott Little is the one kid in this region that I really felt bad for last year. I think he has a great up side, but unfortunately he has very poor mechanics which is one of two reasons why he could possibly have arm problems. The second is the way in which the coaching staff has abused and misused him the last couple of seasons. I saw him get put on the mound several times last year in relief roles in a couple of games and was brought into the games when the games were basicly over, like when the mercy rule was about to take effect. Just made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Hopefully for the sake of Scott Little he has found someone in the offseason to help him with his mechanical flaws, and hopefully a changed mentality with the coaching staff about preserving his future. He does have talent on the mound and I hope he gets a chance to play at the next level.

Your probably going a little to the extreme with that statement. What is his 60 time,( preferrably not home team clockings)? Pugh and Blanton are the two fastest players in the region. It's not even close. I know that Pugh has been gotten at least with a 6.8 and possibly faster in the 60. I also know that Blanton has been laser timed at 6.73. The thing about Pugh and Blanton are that they are just as quick as they are fast. There is a difference and it is just as vital.

As as power numbers who knows, it's hard to guage a kid against another kid that plays most of their games at Stumbo Park against kids such as those that play at Johnson Central or Pikeville where there may in some seasons never be a homerun hit out their park by either the home team or the visiting team. High school stats can be very misleading.
