Greenup County (Mckell High School) is a stretch for a mountain school but so is the term "mountains" in Kentucky. That being said, it's not even close, Don Gullett out of the eastern Kentucky hills had 17 major college basketball scholarships, 35 football offers including Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Alabama and was the projected number one pick in the pro baseball draft. He eventually became an integral part of the Big Red Machine rotation. His high school numbers were video game material. Again, for many he's not from the "mountains" so he doesn't count in this conversation and that's okay, but Don's achievements do lend perspective.
