The Trump administration has ended a program that works to help Americans in the face of disasters.
The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program has helped communities across the U.S. prepare for a number of natural disasters, including flooding.
The funding will directly affect places like Franklin, Powell and Floyd counties. Powell County was in the beginning steps of building a canal on the Red River. This would divert water away from Clay City, which is an area that has already flooded twice just this year.
“It’s kind of discouraging because we’ve been working on this canal project with the previous administration for about 4 years, and this project is very important to the people of Clay City and Powell County due to the fact that every year we have flooding,” said Eddie Barnes, Powell County Judge Executive.
Trump received 76% of the vote in Powell County.
