@Old School Hound I'll try to find the article for you one day soon, so remind me if I forget, but in the earlier days of the site, one of the Ramsey investigators did a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) with what most assume he thought was a group that was more akin to his peers than podcasters and Internet detectives. He made some statements that you'd assume he thought were going to be kept confidential rather than being broadcast in public and some were veeeeerrrryyy interesting; from the tone and direction of the AMA, it even looks like he realizes what's happened and starts backing off on some things.


Some tidbits:

- the ransom amount was almost exactly $1 million Mexican pesos at the time (John Douglass talks about this in one of his books on criminology and profiling that Granny Bear mentioned... I've read a lot of Douglass' books and in one he talks about being hired by the family but is also very adamant that the parents didn't do it)

- investigators are pretty public about the fact that this is the only ransom kidnapping case they've ever heard of where the ransom note was written inside the home

- the Reddit AMA will discuss some of the investigator's thoughts on what's being said at the beginning of the 911 call... many don't realize this, but when you call 911, the recording begins right away, not when someone answers, or not even before you hear the ring


My personal opinion:

Anyone in that family lawyering up, whether they did it or not, is not only something that has no bearing on my thoughts about whether they did it or not; if someone was entirely innocent and police or the public were putting a target on them, they are a fool for not getting an attorney if it's within their means to do so. I can name plenty of cases where grieving parents or family members were victimized by both a perpetrator and then by the police and judicial system.
