Honestly you go straight to Tony and lay the blame. Corbin has one of the best 4 corner stall/offenses ever. Why did he not use it with 2:31 left and an 8 point lead??? My guess would be EGO. Even OSH will agree that Jeff Davis just as a matter of routine out coaches and owns Tony.
Just another year in the 50th!!
The big question how you going to get this youngsters away from Whitley. Because if Corbin or South doesn’t get one or two of them. Good chance next year one of them will be sitting at home.
Not sure why, other than he didn't have the confidence that his team could hold onto the ball long enough to get to the foul line, and if they did get fouled, that they could hit the free shots. More than ego, it seemed like he didn't trust his kids down the stretch, and they responded to that lack of trust by giving up the ball, and the lead. This has not been Tony's best season. He had a good plan all game and then the last two and a half minutes the plan apparently changed to throw the damn ball all over the place. Yes, I agree, Jeff has pretty much owned Tony , especially in recent years. Tony had a good plan in the game at Corbin, and again last night. His kids put the game away at Corbin; they gave it away last night.
Post-game remarks:
1. How long am I gonna have to say it until it happens? --- Forcibly remove Johnny Crawford from the bench and, once and for all, toss him into the dustpan of historical irrelevance, where he belongs for eternity. His sour, sad face, weathered by decades of grotesque mischief, disrespect, and ill intent, needs to be permanently barred from court side.
2. The Corbin radio broadcast is as bad as I can ever remember. It really is in the F -minus range. Embarrassing that WCTT and CHS allows a product like that to air. Corbin has a history of some of the most elite and professional broadcasters you will ever find at any level. First and foremost, you have the Hall of Famer(yes, he's a jackass, but a helluva radio voice), Don Estep. Then you had the great(yes, he killed a man, but he was a helluva radio voice) Chet Maggard, and then the terrific Dave King , who did Redhound games and University of the Cumberlands games. Those were three of the best you could find anywhere.
This clown crew they have now is an embarrassment, not just to those who appreciate good basketball play-by-play and commentary , but even to the casual fan who parks his beat up Ford pickup in the Root Beer Stand parking lot to listen to a quarter hear and there. The one guy with the raspy, awful voice who screams constantly is an embarrassment to even a town like Corbin , that has frequently embarrassed itself over the past 100 years. The guy is the worst I've ever heard on air. If you haven't listened, he is the equivalent of that fat, loud, obnoxious fella that's in the stands of most every HS gymnasium, yelling at refs and fans at every call that doesn't go his way , and smelling like beer , crappie and night crawlers.
Also, the quality of the sound on the broadcasts is horrible. Much of the time you can't even make out what is being said(which, actually , might be a good thing) and it's not uncommon to lose the broadcast entirely, and get switched back to the station for ten minutes of "In Pain, Call Shane" or Pennington Chiropractic("I Won't Twist Your Neck") commercials. When Mabe hit the three with four seconds remaining, it was a good 15 or 20 seconds before I knew if he made or missed the shot. Just a terrible, terrible broadcast collaboration. And it's not much better for football. Several games last year, including the semifinal at Paducah, we got to listen to Shane Romines commercials or retro rock music at the station, for extended periods of time. Eubanks Broadcasting should be ashamed . All of Corbin should be ashamed but, I guess, most of us have become desensitized to the embarrassment.
