Do you like the idea of tariffs imposed on our biggest trading partners?  Do you favor a trade war that will hike prices of some of your favorite goods?  I think it's a very bad idea. Trump likes it just because he can do it and because he enjoys creating chaos.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has just announced that it will retaliate against Trump's  tariffs with it's own 25% tariffs on imports of goods from the US.  The first phase will go into effect on Tuesday, and will include tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods. The next phase will include tariffs on an additional $125 billion of goods. Mexico said it has plans to follow suit. 

Jet, better stock up on your booze. Beer and liquor prices are going up, up, up.  Granny Bear, that morning Orange juice or coffee and those fruits and vegetables for those pies and cakes, likely just got a lot pricier.

I doubt Trump's tariffs will get the blame from BGR scholars , though.

I talked to a guy I know(probably you do as well) last night who works in finance for a company that will be affected from the Canadian tariffs.  He said that they are projecting a $1.2 million reduction in income for 2025 due the price increases that their supplier has already informed them that's coming next month.  He said they would have to pass the majority of that on to the consumer.

I buy tons of steel on a daily basis and it’s tit for tat while it’s true Canadian steel prices may increase U.S. steel, which I’d rather buy anyways, usually increases production which offsets or in some cases lowers prices domestically….The issue for these prices under Biden haven’t been tariffs but shipping which is already starting to ease under the Trump admin due to Buttigieg’s over regulations and covid mandates…So far all your talk of tariffs has been pointless as Trump mostly used it as a bargaining chip and as a business owner I worked twice as hard to make the same money under Biden as I did under the previous Trump admin….

I hope that it works out okay for you this time, but if he follows through, prices will increase on automobiles, beer, soft drinks, appliances, etc.   I saw on the news this morning that Coke anticipated having to increase their prices to offset the aluminum price increase as they get almost all of there cans from Canada.

Oh know, another one of those, "I talked to a guy..." stories. OSH is rubbing off on you, SEKYFAN. He can always conjure up an imaginary friend, acquaintance, or random guy in the stands or on the street to support his arguments. 

Now, maybe this guy that you described actually exists and maybe he is divulging confidential information about his company to you, but income forecasts usually vary year by year, and sometimes they are accurate, but more often than not they miss high or they miss low. A well managed company will forecast sales conservatively to avoid disappointing investors. It is always better to report better than expected financial results than a disappointing performance.

It not sales that will be dropping, just profits.  Any financial analyst, who is not just trying to please someone politically, will tell you that if the tariff does take affect, prices will increase as will inflation, which is already trending up just on the threat of it.  Just wait and see.

If prices rise, sales will decline., all else being equal. You seem to be hoping for high tariffs to prove a basic law of economics. I made "A"s in both macro and micro economics. They were two of the easiest classes that I took in college.

Trump is not going to impose tariffs at rates that will wreck the economy. So far, he is using the threat of tariffs masterfully to win concessions.

Why were you not concerned with inflation during the Biden years? If you are worried about inflation now, why are you opposed to the elimination of wasteful spending? I believe that if Trump had eliminated tariffs, you and OSH would have criticized him for doing so.
