Trump likes it just because he can do it and because he enjoys creating chaos.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has just announced that it will retaliate against Trump's  tariffs with it's own 25% tariffs on imports of goods from the US.  The first phase will go into effect on Tuesday, and will include tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods. The next phase will include tariffs on an additional $125 billion of goods. Mexico said it has plans to follow suit.

Jet, better stock up on your booze. Beer and liquor prices are going up, up, up.  Granny Bear, that morning Orange juice or coffee and those fruits and vegetables for those pies and cakes, likely just got a lot pricier.

I doubt Trump's tariffs will get the blame from BGR scholars , though.

What do you think, MAGA Nuts?  Do you think BGR MAGANS  will  blame Hillary's emails or Hunter's laptop for the skyrocketing costs of avocados?

I talked to a guy I know(probably you do as well) last night who works in finance for a company that will be affected from the Canadian tariffs.  He said that they are projecting a $1.2 million reduction in income for 2025 due the price increases that their supplier has already informed them that's coming next month.  He said they would have to pass the majority of that on to the consumer. Angry
I buy tons of steel on a daily basis and it’s tit for tat while it’s true Canadian steel prices may increase U.S. steel, which I’d rather buy anyways, usually increases production which offsets or in some cases lowers prices domestically….The issue for these prices under Biden haven’t been tariffs but shipping which is already starting to ease under the Trump admin due to Buttigieg’s over regulations and covid mandates…So far all your talk of tariffs has been pointless as Trump mostly used it as a bargaining chip and as a business owner I worked twice as hard to make the same money under Biden as I did under the previous Trump admin….
I hope that it works out okay for you this time, but if he follows through, prices will increase on automobiles, beer, soft drinks, appliances, etc.   I saw on the news this morning that Coke anticipated having to increase their prices to offset the aluminum price increase as they get almost all of there cans from Canada.

Now, maybe this guy that you described actually exists and maybe he is divulging confidential information about his company to you, but income forecasts usually vary year by year, and sometimes they are accurate, but more often than not they miss high or they miss low. A well managed company will forecast sales conservatively to avoid disappointing investors. It is always better to report better than expected financial results than a disappointing performance.

It not sales that will be dropping, just profits.  Any financial analyst, who is not just trying to please someone politically, will tell you that if the tariff does take affect, prices will increase as will inflation, which is already trending up just on the threat of it.  Just wait and see.
What your watching on the news are people’s opinions and knowing the type of news you watch of course that’s what your gonna say….Coke can replace crappy aluminum from Canada with crappy aluminum from China and probably save money even with the tariffs….Maybe we can start producing more of our own and the tariffs will be moot but that’s gonna come with deregulation from energy, steel production, and shipping….There’s a reason we’ve been importing steel from other countries and it’s not because we can’t make it here it’s because every time a Democrat takes office they make it more expensive to produce all most everything, plus they’ve sent American workers home and made it profitable to sit on their rear end instead of earning what they consume

I developed software applications for a large steel mill owned by Nucor in Indiana for over 5 years. American made steel in our newer mills is hard to beat. Japan also produces top-tier steel and I was glad that President Trump convinced Japan to invest in U.S. Steel instead of buying the company. When I can't buy quality American made products, Japan is nearly always my second choice, especially for products made from steel. Japan is my first choice for electronics and small appliances. I will gladly pay double or triple the price for a Japanese manufactured product over a junky Chinese equivalent.
If I’m being honest Japanese steel is better right now than anything out there it just is….It’s also priced accordingly, Im hoping Trump can deregulate enough that the U.S. can catch back up….Canada has recently been selling cheaper but imo the strength doesn’t compare with Japan, India, or U.S. steel although I’ve got a couple of distributors that like to argue about it….Deregulation and lower energy costs will help prices here and nobody will worry about tariffs imo….India is making some quality heavy machinery too, sad times when I started working for my dad years ago everything we bought and used was stamped USA and the quality was unmatched….
I remember when Japanese products had about the same quality as stuff from China. Following WW2, a statistician from the U.S. Census Bureau was sent to Japan to teach statistical process control methods to Toyota and other manufacturers. Japan named it's top award for quality after him.

I attended a week long seminar on QA that the same guy, Dr. W. Edwards Deming, taught. He was in his late 80s or early 90s at the time. Deming was a brilliant man and the Japanese were desperate after WW2, so they became obsessive about improving the quality of their manufactured products. Deming's, statistical methods are now known as Six-Sigma.

Deming was an interesting character who was revered in Japan, but most Americans have never heard of him.
I’m gonna have to check the guy out sounds like an interesting guy I’m always about learning new ways of doing business….
