My previous post applies to Trump's EO regarding birthright citizenship, but his decision to fire 18 Solicitors General was also an appropriate action by Trump. Recent Supreme Court decisions have confirmed that Congress may not make laws that restrict presidential powers bestowed to the president by the Constitution. 

A president has the Constitutional right to his and fire employees of the executive branch, subject to the provisions of the U.S. Constitution, and the Constitution does not require Trump to notify Congress in advance. Democrats (or Congressional Republicans) are free to file suits in federal court if they disagree with that position. 

Trump has a duty to assert the constitutional powers of the presidency when Congress attempts to usurp those powers, just as Congress has the duty to protect it's own constitutional authority. Checks and balances on the power of each branch of the federal government exist for good reason.
